Default What causes this?

While driving a 92 Lincoln Town car with the cruise control on, it suddenly drops into passing gear and back out again....Turned off the cruise, and it did it again. Slowed down, and it still did it....This was at about 77 mph. I was not on any hills or anything which would cause the car to slow down at all...It just suddenly dropped into passing gear.

Here ya go... Ford AOD Transmission
Take your time and do it right. If it doesnt shift right, STOP and do it again! Otherwise you'll be looking for a new AOD

Ok, finally getting to this again. I checked, and no cable attached to the throttle from the transmission. Only one from the pedal, and one from the cruise module.

If I remember correctly,. .the 91 had a 4.6 but had the AODE and it used the small block ford bolt pattern. But in 92 they went with a different fully electronic transmission with the 4.6 bolt pattern. The 4R70? Go on Autozone and register,.. then look up the tech manuals for the car.

AOD used a TV cable like the GM 700R4's did. The AODE I know nothing about,.. and even less about the 4R70.
