put it on a true stock bottom end and see how it does. It dont take a solid roller to go fast.. I been arouod a couple years Amp, I didnt start playing with SBF's, its all Ive played with since I was 14. I have olny owned (performance) 1 other brand and it was my GN.

My brother has a Grand National. Mint with 695 miles on the odometer. Car hasnt left his barn since 1988 and he bought it off the showroom floor in 1987. Those are some fun cars to toy with!

He told me he should be able to get 50+k in about 10 years. Considering what he payed for it in 1987, I would say its a nice investment. I could only pray to get that much from my turd.

So if I bore it .030, use a set of heavy steel rods, and a decent set of pistons makes it something special. Trust me the bottom end is one thing that his holding this car back, if I had something decent with a aftermarket block it would be be in the 9's.

While were talking about shortblocks you want to trade? I would love to have some of that nice shiny stuff you have over there.

The car is faster now and I am still running the same short block, and can drive the car anywhere. I'm not saying it is easy you just have to be willing to work at it...
Not trying start to doubt you or start an arguement but I just wanna get a clear picture??
Stock 302 block .030 over, Flat tops, steel rods, stock crank, .550 lift cam running 6.82@ 102? Please list the top end of the motor; heads, intake and MAF equipment used? Which Tranny and rear end gear?
And on post #66 you said the car went 10.20 @131 BUT that was with a Head change and Carb conversion? What did it run with the EFI setup that ran 6.80 1/8ths? I'm asking cause I think you built this motor about 16 years too late, Local Pinellas guy Dan Flowers held the National 5.0 EFI Steet Stock record in the Fun Ford Weekend Series for a time in the early 90's with a 12.19, and depending on the heads, intake etc.. your combo was probably similar to his! That time would be about a 7.70-7.80 1/8th so you'd have him covered by almost a Full second in the 660? Damm!

Your talking to the old school kid here. And I dont mean 80's Mustangs. I'm very familiar with the 71 - 73 Mustangs. Not a big fan of them but yours I would make an exception. They made the fuckers so big to fit the big blocks and then the oil embargo came along, smog rules and the rest is history. We ended up with a Pinto with a prancing pony on the front of it and no V8 Mustang for 74. Go figure. I was born in 66. I still remember the days when 60's muscle cars were just gas guzzling used cars. You could by them cheap. My first car was a 69 325hp SS 396 Chevelle. Traded that for a 70 GTO RAIII car. I bought a 69 GT500 in 1990 for $9000. My friends said I was stupid to pay that much for the car. I sold it in 2002 for $65k to a collector in Canada to cover attorney fees while fighting my ex-wife for custody of my daughter. I've also had a 69 428 Mach1 4 spd car which I stupidly sold in 94 for much less then what they are worth today. 67 Fairlane GT 390 convertible, 77 Cobra II, Too many Camaros and Mustangs to even remember them all.

Doing a 65 Fury Sport slowly over the last 5 years. My father inlaw has a 49 Chevy Business coupe street cruiser that he's owned since 1968. He's owned some wicked cars over the years. The coupe rarely goes out anymore. Have to charge the battery anytime we want to take it out. I borrow it from time to time to take my wife to a drive-in movie. Other then that it just sits.

You want to talk about heavy beasts?
I've got a story for you.
1984,.. my buddy buys a 1970 Fury. Big ole bohemoth. Paid $600 for the car. I laughed at him. But under the hood was an honest to God 426 Hemi. The car was a pig from a standing start. G60's would just roast up in smoke the second you laid into it. But from a 30 mph roll it could hold its own. He sold the car a year later. I think he got his $600 back out of it. We beat the snot out of that car. I was watching a Barret Jackson auction on TV and what comes up on the block but a 1970 blue Fury just like what he had with the 426 Hemi. Turns out that there were only 5 1970 Fury Sports with a Hemi and only 2 known to be left. It sold for $90k. I nearly choked on my chips. My 69 Shelby was 1 of 7 with a 4 spd and the 3.91 drag pack option. I cry thinking about that car. The looks I used to get pulling into Dairy Queen in that car. And always 1 dumb ass that says,.. nice Shelby clone. Read the door tag smart guy. And the now plaque on the dash with Carrol Shelby's signature. Now piss off.

And finding late 60's early 70's big block anything in the salvage yards these days is nearly impossible. Not like it used to be. Used to come across 421 and 455 Pontiac motors like there was no end to them. The mid 70's 8:1 cr smog motor 455 were fantastic. Crappy old 72 camaro with spare tire falling through a rusted trunk,.. 455 motor, cheap Hooker headers, stock Trans Am intake with a tweaked Quadrajet spraying a 150 shot of nitrous,.. man those were fun times. Capitol Raceway Capitol Heights Md (Wash DC) 1985,.. they didnt want to let me race because the car didnt have seat belts. My buddy takes some rope and ties me into the seat. There now your secure,.. they said ok,.. go race. Good times.
