Default Clutch cable...

I swear, this car turns into more and more of a money pit every goddamn week. Dave, what the hell did I tell you man?

Clutch cable seems stretched out too much... I've been hearing the best way to go is just a regular OEM clutch cable, not one from Steeda, MM, or Summit or anything. Anyone agree/disagree/have a better suggestion? Also, I might as well shoot for a new quadrant while I'm in there... Suggestions on that?

I have a Steeda in mine. It's the only one that I found that has lasted longer than 6 months. Which clutch did you put in?

It's the Ford Racing Heavy Duty. Basically King Cobra, but it doubles as a calf workout also.

I swear, this shitbox just isn't letting me catch a break... Haha.

I've never replaced the cable since I've owned the car at 86k. It's got 92k now, and it's a non-adjustable one on there now. I'll be checking under the dash to see if the quadrant is stock or aftermarket. No firewall adjuster either. The car was bone stock when purchased, so I doubt the previous owner messed with the clutch cable at all.

I just want to make sure that IS the issue I'm having though. A couple days ago I started to notice that after driving the car awhile, it gets REALLY hard to get it into gear. I mean it just doesn't want to go in. Also, the POE of the pedal is real close to the ground, and it was never that low before.

From what I understand, if you have anything other than a stock clutch, you need to have an adjustable cable and a aftermarket quadrant. The stock quadrant is the adjustment and it is plastic. It cant hold up to a heavy pressure plate and will strip out its teeth.

I have been running the Steeda cable and quadrant for years.

I have the King Cobra clutch in mine. (So I totally understand what you mean by a calf muscle work out. LOL )I broke three cables before going on to this Steeda one. In my experience, the quadrant was always included WITH a new cable, and usually didn't cost any extra. But maybe thats just me. The Steeda is adjustable IIRC. Soooo....ummmm...yeah. I can almost do a clutch cable replacement with my eyes shut. It sux, but meah....Did you know that you can shift w/o using your clutch? I figured that out when the second cable broke and I drove it home. It sux, but it CAN be done if your starter is good.

The problem of shifting may be the clutch not fully engaging, or it could be the synchros going bad/missing teeth. (My money is on the clutch not fully engaging)

It's weird. I've TRIED adjusting via pull/push method, but my pedal won't click when it's pulled upwards, which leads me to believe there's an aftermarket quadrant in there. Why there would be is what I don't get. Also, this problem doesn't occur when the car hasn't been driven in a few hours or so. I drove it home from a friend's house this morning, and it drove/shifted fine. Can the cable be getting stretched out over the course of a lot of driving in a day, possibly? The POE is still slightly lower than halfway through the pedal travel, but not as low as it was last night.
