Did you check the plugs? What type are you using and what gap?

i have a whole tune up shabang on order. the plugs are oem motorcraft as are the wires, cap and rotor. everything was replaced not very many miles ago. but again, the car sat for about a year. still tho, i dont see plugs going bad from sitting, and im sure the gap was set right too. the guy i got the car/motor from knew what he was doing.

on another side note, upped the pressure on the gillis today, and still no better. seems to run better when its night time. it breaks up bad during the day.

If it became a problem at 3200/3500 rpm and full boost the reason it would clear up is because even though the rpm is higher and the boost is the same the cylinder pressure is lower because of the rpm. Spark blow out would be most likely on a stockish set up at the point of peak torque. That should be around the rpm where his problem is happening.

The ranger cam is a down grade. Its lower lift then a stock turbo cam. The roller portion of the cam doesn't really pick up much. If you decide that you have to do the cam just be sure to mark your sliders so you can id which one went where. Put the cam in a plastic bag and oil it up so it doesn't rust while awaiting re-installation.

Seriously if you go to the ranger get an adjustable cam gear so you can play around with the power band enough to get some of your top end back.

its in an 88 tc. its silver. with the ihi turbo i have NO TOP END TO SPEAK OF ANYWAY! that thing doesnt spin fast enough to make any power past 5000 rpm. ive got a big t3 from an 84 svo thats gonna get rebuilt soon. its not that stock of a setup either. stinger fmic, open 3" dp, kirban fpr (39 psi per reccomendation from stinger on his site), gillis, k/n cone, 3" intake arm, forge bpv. the bitch should run real good if i can get it to clear up and actually hit the 17-18 psi i want it to run. im hoping the plugs help out. next tank of gas im getting some injector cleaner as well, and when i get a spare minute this weekend i will voltage test the vam.

nice svo by the way plasma.

ok update: put the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires on it today. it ran much better right off the bat. more traffic friendly (not such a dog), and at WOT the miss is just about gone. it breaks up for only a second now and then clears up and goes. pulls harder too once it clears. anyone have any ideas on this one? perhaps its running too rich in that spot and i should either pull some fuel pressure or add timing? just looking for more options at this point. vam testing is this weekend, however i dont think theres anything wrong with it.

What did you gap the plugs at? And what is the base timing set at?

Some of this will be test and tune...not evey car like the same F/P or timing than the next. Why...still puzzles me. One may love to be pig rich will another may like lean.

When is the last time the fuel filter(s) was replaced?

thats a good question and something i have not considered yet. i will have to ask. if it comes down to it and my vam test shows its good and adding a copule degrees of timing doesnt clear the problem up, ill pull some fuel pressure. i want to get a wideband on it first so that i know pulling fuel pressure isnt going to make it run too lean up top though.
