I had an alarm guy come by and check this out. He said the system can't be bypassed when it's armed. Works fine on a normal day, but once on, always on... till reprogrammed/tuned or "reapired" by FORD

As far as I know, the trick to "bypass" it is to dig out the chip out of a key, and tape it near the ignition, under the plastic column cover. The negates the need for a chipped key, but the system is actually still active, and if it is malfunctioning, will not work.

9 times outta 10, the issue is the transponder ring that is around the ignition cylinder. It is not too expensive, and is fairly easy to replace. It also doesn't require the keys to be reprogrammed. Alternately, for a modest fee, I can disable the PATS on most Ford vehicles permanently with a reflash. I have done several for people here on TR. It is actually quite a popular service.

Also EFI. You can reprogram it even if it's armed?

Well it ended up being the transponder ring. It wouldn't start at first, so I left the key in the on position for 15 minutes. Then the car started up just fine. Thanks EFI and everyone else for all your help. I need to call you still for a retune. We forgot how much gas this damn thing sucks up.
