With my old white 23 tooth, If I remember correctly, it was about dead on.

 

Well I found a white 23 tooth at Gearhead, the problem is the square drive inside the gear is not large enough to accomodate the bigger Ford cable.

 

sure its just not a poor quality gear? IDK who actually makes the 23. Ford doesn't

 

I am fairly certain that the Dodge gear is a 23. But of the hundreds I have installed I have never had a problem with them not fitting.

 

white 23 tooth, it doesn't fit on the plastic cable shield as well as the ford one either. I have a ford 21 tooth and it fits the cable shield and speedo cable fine, but the little titty on the end had to be cut to fit into the trans.
I can't see the freakin' inner gear because there's a crossmember in the way.

 

i have had a problem before with the white 23 now wanting to fit over the speed sensor.
they dont last long either.

every T5 i build gets a 6 tooth drive gear well worth the 5bux imo

 

Reps for Mitch at gearhead, he hooked me up with the speedo gear.
Apparently the gears that are 23 tooth are made a little smaller on the inside. I carefully took a deburring tool and using a 7/16 drill bit as a measuring tool, carefully (very carefully) worked out the inside of the gear so it was the same as the facotry ford piece.
It works like a champ, thanks again Mitch for knowing your stuff.
