As for the quick cycle its more than likely because it is low on freon.

And yes your GT use's R134a.....R12 was outlawed many years ago.

Ok. Yes my AC is on Max and the blower is on max when I do it. The car is running. The gauge appears to be reading when its attached. It goes up to like 65ish psi and then it drops down to 8-10 when the compressor cycles. Ive had it sit like this for upwards of 20 minutes with me shaking the can and turning it upside down and on its side the whole time like the directions read.

jump the low pressure switch with the can on the low side . it should pull the freon in then . If not , then there is another problem.Do you have a set of gauges ? What's the high side pressure ? If the high side is real high and the low side real low , then there is a restriction .

Its not a set of gauges. Its the cans of freon you get at wal mart with the pressure gauge on it. It only goes on one part of the AC. Different size fittings. It goes on the part of the hose thats toward the passenger side of the engine compartment closer to the firewall. Thats the high side correct? Im not sure what the problem is. My AC hasnt worked correctly for about a year and a half now. I got a can of freon last year and it seemed to pull it all in and ran much colder when I did it but it did take a while for it to use the whole can. The car has never had any other AC problems and I dont hear any kind of pressure relief occuring so I dont think its got a leak but I could be wrong. How long does it normally take for it to use the can of freon?

you have to charge it on the low side . the low side is suction , thats why if you do it running it should suck the freon in.High side won't take any freon at all , not running.
wiht gauges you should be between 35 and 45 pounds on the low side and around 200 on the high side at idle . give or take on the high side depening on ambient temp

Oh ok. So the one in the back toward the firewall is the low side then? Its got a smaller fitting than the one near the radiator and its the only one my can fits on. Or is it possible that I got the wrong freon shit and it came with an adapter that doesnt work with mustangs?
