Yes Jim, she was carb'd 2 600's right out the box minus the choke plates edelbrocks and the scoop was a MR GASKET street scoop..love to watch them butterflies open and close..JFI that lower intake was a dyno don nickelson hand built deal..the top part was weiend crossover with out the carbs on you could almost reach down threw the intake and touch the valves
ask Julian(LLFORDMAN) how much fun we had in this one 31x18 rear tires on a narrowed 9in. 390 gear ,moser axles, 3500 stall and no cage car was stupid scary

Oh I bet,.. with all that torque. Thats my kinda ride right there. If I had a 460 short block to work with I'd go that route for sure. But I've got this C9OE block that was given to me,.. so I'm devoted to this one for now.

Back in the day I had a brand new 89 GT. Before this car I was strictly a Chevy guy and had nothing but Camaro's except for a 78 Mustang Cobra II before that. My good friend was still in his 80 Z28 and I was busting him in the ass. He finally picked up a 90 LX hatch. But by the time he got his car I had already done all the bolt ons, exhaust and 4.10 gear. So I was putting the whoop ass on his LX too. Each time he modded his car I was 1 step ahead of him. He got so pissed off that at 12k miles he yanked the 5.0 motor out and put a built 460/C6 combo in there complete with Cobrajet heads. He was running low 11's on the motor spinning halfway down the track. At best guess he was making 600+ HP. I couldnt touch that LoL.

Funny thing is I ended up with his old motor 15 years later. It still had the 1990 plug wires on it. I ended up selling it to Frank. He tore it down and said it was still all very good inside. And it had been sitting for 15 years on a milk crate in his garage and then another 2 years on an engine stand in my garage.

well if you are talking stock motors what about the cobra and expoler push rod motors. on corral there is a bunch off people making 300 h.p. to the wheels with stoch gt40p heads and intake unported with the factory h.o. cam. those are stock 302s.i think the windser style motors are very good motors considering they were design in the early 60"s.

I think if the discussion is towards smaller motors say sub 306 then mod > push. But anything over that the pushrod wins. I don't care how many valves, cams, whatever, you NEED cubes period. Especially in the N/A world. Thats the down fall of the mod. The design itself for building hp is better than the old school pushrod. Its just lack of cubes kills it.

increasing the already 4.162 long stroke is probably going in the wrong direction. Yes it adds cubes but also decreases rpm (in theory). Only success ful (I mean realiable) nasty n/a setups I've seen came from 3 guys. The Tymenskis from MP, Al Papito, and Scott Cushman (formerly of VP Engines). All 3 had 4v motors under 9.3 N/A and all under 330 cubes. None of them were stroked. Big bore yes but not stroked. I just think the bore spacing killed any serious competition from the mod motors. Fuckin Ford.

So, its a bigger motor with less displacement. BRILLIANT!

pretty much, the funny part is, if they would have put good rods in the motor from the factory, there would be many more forced induction mod motor cars around putting out 500. the block itself is def. stronger than a 5.0 block. the crank isn't that bad either.

for that matter, the 5.0 crank, rods, and pistons will long outlast the block. The bean counters at ford caused that problem long time ago.
There are some old school racers that also swear there was a quality control problem with 91 5.0 blocks that included a higher nickel content, they supposedly are much stronger and I've talked to a couple that had 91 blocks hoarded as another racing secret.
