spray, hands down...
u can always find a nitrous kit for under 360, my first one i payed 250 for it, it was a dry shot. and dont let the old guys scare u, ur not gonna use a whole bottle with one shot, so it will take u a while to run out on a bottle. aslong as ur not spraying everywere u go... lol

Race car or street car?
If I had to choose between the two then turbo.
Street car - Intercooled twin screw like a whipple or kenne bell. They make lots of grunt down low and plenty in mid range. Not as much on the top end as a turbo but for a turbo to make more power on the top end you sacrifice lots at the bottom so its better for street/strip cars with an emphasis on the strip or all out race cars.
Race car - Turbo all the way. Maybe with a shot of nitrous off the line for getting the car motivated.

Turbo's can be cheap too. Starting with a carb'd 302 Mustang, myself and a partner were able to get it turbocharged for under $300.
$100 GM 6.5 Diesel truck turbo, used, internal wastegate.
$75 Cheap eBay 50mm blow off valve
Less than $100 for a t3 flange, misc flanges, fittings
We used stock headers, cut up some old exhaust pies for tubing, and fabbed a carb hat, no intercooler. It sounds gross, but it really didn't look half bad. I wish I had pictures to prove it. Granted, this is an extreme example, and we definately did a lot of cutting and welding ourselves, but we really did it, and it really cost less than $300. The motor was stock with an e-cam, and made 340rwhp @ 10PSI, on Race Related's dyno. It ran great.

?how many runs are you getting out of a bottle? I ran a 175 shot for years on a street car and I would easy go through 2 bottles a night!

I voted for spray because the "up-front" costs are more in line with the budget build I am doing. Would I rather have a turbo? Hell yes. Can I afford one? No.
Also, a full bottle lasts one minute so, if you do the math, a full bottle does not last very long at all. It is a royal pain in the ass to constantly be filling bottles. The good news is when the bottle is empty your car is not being put under extra stress. The bad part is the $35 bottle refills and the fact that you have a slower car if the bottle is empty.
