I really dont see how milling your heads down alone could ever produce this kind of compression ratio. He would have to have flycut domed pistons as well...and even then. Lemme guess he runs it on pump gas too. Is this the Mustang with 2 reverse gears? If all he is running is 10s with that wonder setup he has issues. There are 10.5 tire class cars running faster with less compression and as anyone will tell you compression alone does not make your car fast.
Anyway I lumped the Auburn bearings and ring and pinion together since the metal shavings from the old spider gears funked up the whole shooting match.
As for your 1.6 60 foot times with slicks...this is no big feat. I am merely .1 second off of your time with drag radials mounted on 17 wheels. Did I mention that the car I did this with is a 99 Cobra convertable with road race suspension and a solid rear axle conversion? Imagine that car with slicks. All you are doing with slicks on your stock suspension is hurting your car if you havent already. At my last place of employment (Race Related) I have seen many people who have done what you did. Common issues were:
dents in roof and 1/4 panel caused by body flex
torn lower torque boxes
demolished upper control arm mounting points
tears in floorboard
body so warped and twisted subframes couldnt be installed properly
Every Mustang I have ever built personally (wether it be mine or family) had fully built and properly built suspension and reinforcements before it was beat on. If you actually took the time to reinforce and build your suspension then disregard this.

1. I did not state that my friends car only had the heads milled of course he has different pistons and other things to say the least. I dont know nor really care what others run and most of the REAL racers will always tell you a little less on the compression than they are really running. And of course he is not on pump gas. I have teased him that if his compression goes any higher he will need glow plugs! We ran 17:1 compression in our 800+ H.P. Ford powered sprint cars years ago so compression is power !
2. My friends car only runs low 10s because of the class that he is in and the restrictions on the type of heads / intake he can use and the weight of the vehicle among other things. He won his class in Fun Ford Weekend series last year so trust me he knows his shit. If he did not have these restrictions he would of course run much faster than 10s ! I know what the cars run in all of the various classes but dont think for a minute that you nor I know exactly what any of the cars run for compression because everyone lies when it comes to exact set-ups. I know compression does not make your car fast. This is obvious by the lower compression blower / turbo cars. Dont worry I have been in the Mustang scene for a long time so you dont have to give me chapter and verse on any of this. I dont post bullshit topics or responses I just post what I know or have a fairly good idea on. I have probably been doing this longer than most of the people here. That does not mean in any way I know everything because I dont nor that it is in any way a slam towards anyone else here.
3. As far as my 60ft times. From the feedback I have received from others the 1.60 60ft times on a bone stock suspension seems to be better than most. I have laid to rest many of my friends cars 60ft. times with far more suspension work than mine so I am happy with my accomplishment! I am glad to hear that you are in the 1.7 range with your Cobra. Which is a better platform than my 1990 so we are not comparing apples to apples here especially if you have different suspension components. As far as damaging the car goes. I have not damaged the car whatsoever. Why ? Quit simply. I put some of the thickest sub-frame connectors on that I have ever seen but nothing else. Am I lucky I have not flexed the car in the areas you mentioned ? Perhaps but it hasnt happened. No flex in the frame no 1/4 windows that no longer fit no torn torque boxes etc. etc... But am I going to reinforce all of this when the new suspension goes in ? Absolutley ! I will reinforce the car in places that most people do not usually consider plus all of the normal areas like under the rear seats torque boxed etc. etc..
So why did you lash out ? Or am I just taking your post the wrong way ? I Dont quite understand what I did to rile you up. I want the Ford forum to grow and let everyone learn from each other not start pissing matches.
It seems to me that everyone has something to learn once and a while.
Peace

I didnt lash out man. I was trying to create some interest in here the only way I know how...by making people explain their actions.
I disagree that a Fox body is a inferior drag platform to a SN95. Not only is the SN95 heavier but it is more biased for cornering. Of course I am proof that you can make anything launch. Anyone who has seen the Cobra (my moms car) run is amazed at the launches it gets. IMHO it is too low and too stiff (it makes my Silver car look like an off road machine with its mere 1 1/2 drop). I was just as surprised as anyone when I got those times after some practice. The car just seemed so wrong for what it was accomplishing with a suspension set up geared more for Road Atlanta than Desoto Dragway. Id like to put a manual tranny in the Lemon Drop and give her hell at the track with some 5000 rpm launches. Remind me sometime and I will give you a ride in it so you can see how drag suspension handles/works. It has Megabite Jr. lower control arms set to 150% hook Steeda upper control arms Eibach drag springs w/airbag. Front has Lakewood 90/10s and Eibach lowering springs. The nose was just too high with the drag springs as the ass end of convertables usually has the droop to it. It really does its job along with the subframes and 4 point. Let me know...I have some Saturdays off coming up soon.

O.k. cool.
I guess I am just to acustomed to the other forums where people lash out for no reason. So I am glad to see it wasnt the intent here.
I do not think MY Fox body is inferior to the SN95s. Only when comparing the two cars in bone stock fashion do I think this. The Cobras typically run a little better in this situation. I wouldnt give up my car for a SN95 for several reasons. The biggest one being that with me in the car (175 lbs) the car weighs barely 3000 lbs.. And it is not a total gut box either. I still have power everything stock heavy seats power steering bumper braces etc.. I did put it on a good diet but I could still shead a bunch of weight if I wanted to.
I completely understand how a drag suspension works and I have a pretty good idea on what I will need to do to set it up properly. I will know for certain in two more weeks.
We will have to find a day when we are both going to be at the track at the same time so we can check out each others rides. I am looking forward to meeting some of the others here especially the Ford people.

this is off the latest subject but has to do with the subject of Fast Fords in Tampa. I was at Sunshine last night and turned in a new best 1/8th time. 7.58 @ 92.57 (1.64
with slicks. I cant wait to get to the 1/4 now. What times do you think I will run w/ that 1/8th time?

You go man !
O.k. I am sitting here with a stack of timeslips in front of me from over the years. I will list off all of the ones that are really close to your time whether it was my run or someone else because there was actually a day when they gave you the entire damn timeslips and did not rip it so you could see what your opponent ran !
The order will be 1/8th mile et 1/8 mile mph 1/4 mile et and then 1/4 mile mph.
Here it goes:
7.53 @ 87.51 = 12.38 @ 110.02 (My Run)
7.55 @ 86.48 = 12.21 @ 104.03 (Not My Run)
7.75 @ 91.32 = 12.06 @ 113.60 (Not My Run)
I have tons more but this should give you a good idea. With your mph you should be closest to the last run I listed. Keep in mind a lower 1/8 mile time does not always traslate evenly in the 1/4 mile just look at the first run a listed. This was when my car was stock EFI slicks gear and a 100 shot of juice. The 1/8 mile time is better than yours but the car would fall on its face the last 1/8 mile because the motor could not breath.
With your mph I would have to guess a 11.80 - 11.90. And thanks for the invite to go to Sunshine!

My 5.0 is now decently fast again!! I finally got my exaust leak fixed which gave me the back pressure I needed to get my 4-barrel to open up.

Hey 1_Fast_Stang Let me know when your gonna go down to BMP. Maybe Ill take my car down there and see what itll do in this cooler weather.
I guess you got those tuning issues worked out judging by your 18 mile times. Those times are real good. I would guess that to equate to about a 11.60-11.70.
