HELP...car broke down
Removing the carb minimizes fatfinger mistakes of dropping shit down into the intake manifold. It's probably a good idea to remove it, you'll also discover leaking vacuum lines that way.

Fair enough.
Alan, glad you got it worked out and it was simple and free!

Spoke too soon. At the exact same spot on the exact same road...the fucking thing started up again. This time I was able to limp it home.
Car started okay this morning and ran very strong on the way to work. On my lunch break it started with the usual low idle/stall issue. On my way home it started with the low idle/stall issue again...and the choke FINALLY kicked on about 10-minutes into my drive home. WTF.
I figure it has to be a fuel/carb issue. When it left me completely stranded on Tuesday it behaved just like a car that ran out of gas while driving down the highway.
5-minutes ago I pissed away about $450 to overnight a Holley Street Avenger 570, Holley install kit, and Carter mechanical fuel pump. That was the money that was SUPPOSED to go towards my Maximum Motorsport LCA's, caster/camber plates, and front brake lines.
Guess it was something I was going to do later on down the road, but this just pushed back my 5-lug project by another 1-2 months.

UPDATE:
As with everything on this car, a 2-hour job turned into a 8-hour job thanks to 5-6 runs to the parts store and odd unexpected issues. Interestingly enough, almost every semi-major project on this car has required the use of JB Weld and zip ties. For this particular project we only had to use JB Weld once and utilized approximately 4 zip ties. No duct tape was used in this project.
First things first...there were quite a few issues we identified and fixed today. The carburator was leaking fuel out of the front and rear bowls. The fuel feed line appeared to have been hand tightened into the carburator. The positive wire from the alternator to the choke pretty much fell apart. Upon removal of the carburator there was evidence of gasket failure. The coil appears to be the factory original 1984 unit. The lines feeding the factory coil were garbage. This was a HUGE fire hazzard (leaking fuel and cracked/aged/shit wiring). I'm feeling extremely lucky that nothing happened to this car before we fixed these issues. This was an accident waiting to happen.
After all was said and done the car received a brand new Holley 570 Street Avenger, a Carter "muscle car" mechanical fuel pump, a new OE spec coil (relocated to the passenger fender well), new fuel feed line from pump (including filter), and a bunch of spiffy new wiring.
Car runs strong but has a bit of a hiccup when the secondaries kick in. We will work on tuning the car next weekend. The true test on whether or not this fixed my hot start issues will come on Monday after my commute to and from work.
I'm also having an issue with the car completely returning to idle. When I drive the car around the car will idle at around 1200 rpm. To make it idle at the normal 750 I have to physically go under the hood and push the throttle lever back to idle. Seems to need a return spring...any ideas?
HUGE HUGE HUGE thanks to Craig (Presidential). Couldn't have done this without your carburator expertise.
I'd also like to thank Summit Racing. Only $20 to have this shipped UPS next day air for sat morning delivery. Ordered this stuff late TH night and it was on my doorstep at exactly 10:30am on Saturday.
