The 8.8 can handle a decent amount of power stock, but the real question you need to ask is how hard you're going to hook. Are you on slicks with a shot of nitrous and drag suspension, or are you on stock suspension with cheezy drag radials?

I beg to differ the stock 8.8 is weak. The stock rear end will break trust me I know from experiance. On the other hand a built 8.8 can take a pretty good amount of power. And will take what your talkin about throwin at it no problems.

It all depends on how hard you hook and launch. A stock 8.8 with slicks and a WOT launch on a stick car or an auto with a transbrake and a shiftkit might go boom at stock power levels. By the same token, if you're spinning off the line and the car doesn't launch like a raped ape the 8.8 will hold up to some light(In mullet terms) modding.

With MT drag radials, a gear, and drag suspension, if you're pushing any kind of pwoer you need to upgrade. You can build your 8.8 without spending TOO much money, or opt to swap in a 9", which is a good bit heavier, but beefier. Kinda like the C6 in relation to the C4 transmission.

i had a completely stock 8.8 in my heavy 89 'vert with SN95 axles sixty footing in the high 1.4s - low 1.5s all day long. the car ran 6.60s-6.80s for a few years without a hitch.

all my mustangs (6 or so) have had slicks & poweradders with stock rearends that never broke.

Well I guess you all have more luck than I do. Every stock rear end I have reaced with have ended up broken. I upgrade the guts and have yet to break one of my built rear ends.
