I have a 95 GT 8.8 rear in my car. It handled 1.45 60' and 480 rwhp. I turned the car up to 600 RWHP and one of the axle shafts shattered right off the line. All runs were on MT drag radials. Stock 8.8 impressed me handling some pretty good abuse with a 480 rwhp fox. But I was probably on borrowed time from the beginning.

Just as an example:
I had an 8.8 with 33splines, 3.89 gears and a spool (c-clip elims, etc), best I cut with it was a 1.29 before I tried to put it through a guardrail but it had more in it.
When running the SS class I had to add about 220lbs of lead to get it to make the 3200 with me in it (weighing 160ish).
Didn't have any major mods from a "lightening" standpoint, removed the heavy steel bumpers, fiberglass hood, race seats, etc.
all steel cage, blah blah

coupes are light to start with...

hope this helps give you an idea.

got my 82 capri down to 2500 and change w/ a windsor in it...trans broke at the 1000 ft mark and still ran 6.40 in 1/8 and 10.00 flat in 1/4... 3800 stall and a 150 60ft....only the second pass on a new combo....has 4.10....31 sp strange axles and a spool...ran this for 8years w/no breakage....installing 4.30 gears 5000 stall and removing the mufflers... hope to get the capri back on the track soon...should run 5.90's or better at sunshine...thats if i can keep the gremlins away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good luck w/your combo....btw....door crash bars are worth 25#S A DOOR.....

My 90 Coupe weighed 2860 with a half tank of gas, and mostly gutted. All I left in it was the seats (4 cylinder) door panels, dash, and center console. I also have A/C and PS. I'd like to get some more weight out of her but I don't want to sacrifice safety. I'd like to get at or near 2800 with me in it, and still retain A/C.

Another thing to remember is better suspension components usually weigh more. Not much, but it seems like some. Subframe connectors are a must, and those are added weight above anything else. The difference between stock suspension, and upgraded is pretty impressive. My car actually feels like it's trying to hook now. At first it was just wheelspin, then wheelhop, now I'm just at the limit of my crappy tires.

For the record (traction not being an issue) 400hp, and 2800 lbs = 11.02. That's a perfect pass though.

yeah i did the math and its looking to be around a 10.10 number on motor alone.

i'm going to be using a motor plate and it will have no or wiring really..

basic wireing like lights and turn signals even though no on uses them down here, the msd box, fan, bat, water pump and fuel pump,oh and windshild wipers

once i get more money up i will do aje front suspension and a cage..but she will for sure have frame connectors

all depends. a tubular k-member will be lighter than stock, tubular control arms, etc..
