Yes it is quite the shit.

Funny thing is my block has all the same mods plus some via my engine builder.

By all means I wasn't knockin the r block. Its a great block. Its just that boss is said to be a way better replacement.
But there is one advantage the boss has over your R block that your engine builder can't do. And that's the make up of the block material. The boss is said to have diesel block grade iron plus better cooling than the r block. But like you said any good machine shop knows how to fix that in the r block which it sounds like your guy has done.

I was not implying you were knocking it, sorry if it came off that way.

We soniced three blocks before I settled on one. While I was unaware of this material you mentioned I can tell you we pinned the sonic meter in many places checking the thickness and density of the block. One block I got had even better results on the sonic testing but the crankshaft journals were honed at a very slight angle front to back. I hope the new blocks do not have all the variances from one to another that we found on the R blocks.

One thing I have that the Boss does not is several additional oiling points on the block. I think this is why I have a consistent oil pressure of 105 lbs going out the back door at the track.

I would like to know exactly what they did on the cooling upgrades. We did nothing for this because we did not want to compromise the rigidity of the block. However I have had some cooling issues in this summer heat but it was a known entity with the R block. I have since added a additional cooling fan, hopefully it does the trick. It should since it was added by the turbo that was heat soaking my radiator.

Well the boss block also has some oiling upgrades as well "Revised oiling and cooling system passageways" And the cooling revisions as they say come from the nascar world "Siamese bore with drilled coolant crossover holes"

Here read this article, it everything is correct in this artical the boss block is pretty much ready to go straight out of the box.

Ok, since the boss 302 is so new, I probably cant buy one already machined for a 347 kit heh?

So who can I trust to machine this thing?

The Boss block is cast at the same foundry that casts the PowerStroke blocks, and is also made form the same material.

According to what they say it already has the cleance for a 347 stroke. All that really needs done is a good inspection and a .030 over bore to make it a 347.

Every thing must be checked if you want it to last.Sure, you want to put together a homemade 347 then wonder why you wiped out bearings go ahead.Or trust someone that knows alot more than you to put it together. If anyone steps up to an aftermarket block and wants to make some serious power I suggest you take it to someone and have it done right.
