You were driving you heard a pop, no fluids are leaking (water/oil) no smoking at high rpm? and your over heating...

Yank the water pump, im gonna assume the shaft broke in half and the water pump rotor isnt even spinning.

But you also said your oil is being consumed?

 

Remember everyone tired 5.0's tend to loose oil. But there is a exceptable amount of loss.

 

ftw put a thermostat in it and check your oil regularly
