Where is the best place to weld the bung on my Canton 7 qt. oil pan? The turbo is on the passenger side so obviously on that side but I've heard opinions from the front to the back. If I were to place it in the back, the oil would get to the pickup faster. I have also seen it placed in the front of the oil pan.

Also, where should I measure from to determine how high to place the bung?

id put the return near the front of the pan, that way when the hot oil returns to the pan it is not going to be picked up immedetly.

 

That makes sense. Where would you place it, how high from the bottom of the front sump, or how low from the oil pans rim?

 

i would put it above the oil level that way it will drain into the pan, otherwise you will have a column of oil sitting in the end of the hose.

 

Have you seen the DSS oil fitting?

That's what I've been told, but here's the dumb question: How do I determine what the oil level is? Before I go and assume that I thread the dipstick tube into the pan and see where the level should be according to new dipstick, I just wanted to make sure first. I don't wanna go and make a dumb mistake.

since the pan is out of the car, set it up where the top rail is level, then dump in 6qts of water, that will be the highest oil level.

 

Well hell, that sounds easy enough!

 

i'd put it in the back of the intake pouring into the valley, or t it into the valve covers.
