you need a meter. check the voltage going to the battery while its running, when you get it started, it should be above 12 volts to it in order for it to take a charge. there are also fusible links going to the post on the starting solenoid that the positive battery hooks to. check those, the one coming from the alternator feeding the battery could be bad and not letting the alt. do its job.

+1

on a 3g there are 3 wires on the plug and one post.

one wire goes from the plug to the stator

one goes to a switched 12 v on a fuse/fusible link to tell the alt to turn on and charge.

jump power to the green wire, i think it is the middle one, see if the alt kicks on, if it does, you have a bad fuse/link.
the other goes to the post on the back.

I am a Manager at Advance and I don't think I am a "douchebag". But then again you didn't bring it to me to have it checked. Like I said before bench test are good but not fool proof. If you would have taken the car there and had it tested on the car I am sure the "douchebags" would have sold you an alternator!! Sorry for your bad experiance but most of the "counter help" (employees) are just kids willing to work for peanuts.

non taken. I would agree there are alot of dumbasses in this world. Advance is just another retail outlet store, its like going to walmart and asking the people in the pet department and asking about breeding. A store is a store a shop is a shop. If you ask a mechanic about a P/L statement he would look like a dumbass too. Like I said sorry for your luck. And again sorry for the bad experiance with Advanced Auto Parts.
