Default another problem for me...

ok im sick of playin with this bitch.. i thought it was my alternator so i took it out and took it to advance..well the intelligent auto mechanics that work there told me that they tested the alternator and they said it was fine.. so then i take my battery up there and they said it was bad.. so i buy a new battery..well i get home put the new battery in and the car works fine..so im like ok im a dumbass and that was easy..well the next day the car dies again.. i can watch my volts die really slowly then the car just shuts off.. im out of ideas on what it could be..

im going to change the positive and ground wires that run to the battery and try and follow everything to see if there is any bad connections anywhere..

anyone else have any ideas on what it could be?

if you can start the car, put a volt meter on the battery while it is running and you should have something over 12 volts to charge the battery. if not than it is the alt.

check all the grounds from body to engine and such.

Default check this

ok do the old simple test to check the alt i believe if you have the car running and disconnect the positive battery if the car cuts off then usually that means its your alternator if it stays running then its not and has to be something esle i did this once and it worked for me instead of takin my car to a mech i replaced the alt and no more cut offs good luck man let us know if you figure it out

so it's the positive side? i did it with the ground side and it shut off.. i coulda sworn it was the ground.. but i'll try the positive side when i start it up here in a few..

but im kinda happy..my friend took his mach to the drag strip last night.. he can't drive all that great and he pulled a 9.1 in his auto mach..and i beat him from a roll..so next week if i get her runnin im gonna go to lakeland and see what it will run.. im hoping for really high 8's (which i doubt i will get) to low 9's

This is one way that will work on most older cars... There are others that it will ruin your alt if you take the battery off while running. It causes a spike in voltage and can mess them up. 95 and older mustangs or 302s I should say it will work fine. Good luck.

Bench tests show the alt working then the only other problem could be wires. Good luck.

this is the only problem mine ever had, i also thought it was the alternator so i replaced it and it still did it. so i got pissed and didnt know what it was cause the battery tested fine, so then i decided to check the fuses just for the hell of it and i found a blown fuse under the hood, replaced it and its been fine ever since......

That would cause a starting problem but I dont think it would affect charging.
