Why do t-5's??
Break
Actually that isnt my question so much as when they do break I notice people snap input shafts or even break main shafts. I've seen them break teeth off the gears and who knows what else.
What I haven't heard people doing much of is breaking/sheering shift forks. This does happen occasionally to people who shift hard and don't have a positive stop shifter.
I've had problems breaking t-5's but not killing the normal things. I've mainly hurt syncros and shift forks. I have a pro-50 shifter with the stops adjusted as the intructions and people say.
Why else would you kill shift forks? Or syncros even?

T-5s are not meant to handle what you are putting through them. You just need to set-up and buy a more expensive trany. Then you can come back here and ask why TKOs are breaking in strange ways....

Stock t-5's can only take so much hp, 4cy t-5's can take even less heres a website that tells you what year your t-5 came from what all the gear ratio's are and how much hp you can put to them before they go BOOM!!!!http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...p/index2.shtml
Hope that helps

You're killing synchro's because of the RPM you're shifting at. Not many manual tranny's will shift above about 6500 RPM unless you pro-shift them. And if you pro-shift them, you will tear synchro's up NOT shifting fast at high RPM's.
If you're breaking shift forks, it sounds like you may need to adjust the shifter a bit tighter because there's really no load on a shift fork other than overextending when shifting.

Brett some days I hate hearing the truth. Today is one of those days
I appricate the link.
As for the amount of power they can hold I do believe that would be an issue if I was breaking the things that I mentioned above. The shift forks and syncros aren't breaking because of power.
Dave that makes a good bit of sense on the rpm thing. I never really considered the rpm that I shift at being the issue.
Can anything be done to help it shift at a higher rpm? Or to extend the life of the syncros? Do the g-force t-5s have anything special about the syncros or shift forks compaired to a normal t-5?

The G-Force ones are pro-shifted (which you can do by cutting every other tooth off of the synchro) but when you do that, you HAVE to shift it hard and fast or you'll tear them up (you can't drive around normally).
The synchro's in a C4 are much stronger

Oh and i'm in the middle of putting another t-5 in my car. The one from you but the bearing collar is messed up. I didnt think much of it because I have like 4 broken trannys here. But the damn collars off them doesn't fit the bearing on it. I need to find a good collar!
Hopefully be out at the track wensday.
