no 87-88 v8 got the 85 mph but the tach is 7k

You have different car years listed here.

I can't figure out why you can't just put your current speedo cable into the new tranny. This would retain the speedo you have no.

This is what I did on my Ranger. It used to be a 4 banger from 92 Vintage. Put in an AOD from 89. The cable bolted right in.
