Why does T-stat leak?

Might be silly but could it be a pressure issue. Obiviously it sees pressure with the tstat in and that why it leaks then but maybe it's not opening at all and causing excessive pressure.
Car run hot with it in? Long shot but only new idea I could think of, they covered about everything else.
