You going with flat tappet? Or roller? Which cam are you going to put in?

Its flat tappet now..I might do the roller conversion while i have the intake off this time.The motor is a 306.Its got 4 valve reliefs in each piston about a 1/4 deep.From the looks of it i would think i would not have any issues with piston to valve clearance..I am trying to digg up some old pictures of my pistons..

As far as the cam I am not real sure yet..I have been trying find posts online to see what cams people have used with these heads and what their results were...

I would check with Dave at Genium before buying a cam. He can probably tell you if your cam will be too big or not...Even with 4 reliefs, it may not fit. IIRC, The performer RPM cam was too large to run w/o valve guides at least. Larger than that, (I THINK) I would have had to have the pistons cut. The 284hr has .530 lift IIRC. The Performer RPM is only .490 IF I remember correctly. I may not, so I would double check it. But ask Dave at Genium. (91Notch on here)

FWIW- I had the Performer RPM cam, and intake on my 302 before with a 750 Vac secondary along with modified heads. It made my 3000lb 67 mustang run high 12's off the bottle. The Jr.'s and Sr. heads are better than mine I'm sure.

Sorry i am having a brainfart...What do u mean by (IIRC) I have never heard that term before..lol..The Crane 284HR is .512 intake .512 exhaust.112 ..Thanx for all the input..

i d have to double check but I have a friend that is selling a set of aluminum edlebrock rpm performer heads for like 800 or something and all you would need is rockers, I have to double check to see if he still has em, but I am running a 302 stock bottom end with tfs aluminum heads which are 2.02 valves, and a 5.10 lift cam, which i need to change and go bigger, but i have no clearance issues, now if i go to the tfs stage 2 cam or the frpp x cam, i have to notch my pistons, don t know if that helps but i do know if you go with bigger heads you def need a bigger cam, my car is a dog in 3 rd gear with this 5.10 cam in it. Goodluck man.

Ohh yeah I also have another friend that I think has a set of holley aluminum heads he is getting ready to sell. Lmk if you are interested.
