Hey Oldman.. PT II... 56K Death
Today, I learned to walk it out...
Ok, so not exactly what you think.. but I will go into detail in a few... but first.. here are some pics... and in order of the night... Oh and yeah, I now have a grand total of just over 6 hours of GTAW ( TIG ) under my belt..
I welded to pieces together to make a T.... (well more of a leaning "t".. LOL... )

First one, free hand... (start of the day.. and start of hour #3) You can clearly see it didn't tie in, on half of the piece and very inconsistent...

Welded up two more of these just like it.. and they turned out about the same.. so I asked for a little insight as to what I was doing wrong.. and what I was doing right.. My instructor showed me a few things.. and basically said I was not doing so good... in which I agreed... but wanted to know where to go from there... in which he showed me how to walk it out!!!!!!! Ok, so not really walk it out.. but "Cup Walk" in which it is a TIG techinque... so here are the following "T's"..
First "T" after... (showing the 3 different beads and layers/levels)

Other side of same "T"... ( 3 Layers also, but hard to see )

And here is the last two beads I ran right before cleaning up for the night.. ( 6th Hr. ) Had about 4 or 5 inches of filler rod left... and the short one was about and inch and half which is why it is so short.. I could not hold the rod anymore and weld it...

As always, input, criticism, comments and jokes are welcome...

2nd to last pic looks like it is undercut on the top of the righthand weld. Those look as though you were trying to melt it in too much and running the pedal a bit too hot. This is evidenced by the concave appearance of the welds. If you're going to run that hot, you need to add more filler rod, so run it just a tad cooler. Just make sure you run it hot enough to get good penitration. I always loved tig because it was so clean and you can control the heat with the pedal if necissary. When you are welding, don't just treat the tig gun like a pencil, you have to move the whole arm and wrist as well. At least until you get a couple hundred more hours under your belt. As I said before, practice makes better, and it looks like you're picking it up pretty well.
Why you even trying....

Doug awesome welding man!!!

Thanks for all the comments fellas...
GNS-R-SLOW,
I picked it up, basically a week ago... but still have a lot to learn..
Initial,
Thanks bro... and maybe in the future if need be, maybe look me up, if I have a machine by then.. LOL..
Shawn,
I will be more than happy to do some "real" world welding in the future... however, at this point, the welding would have to be done with somebody's own shop welding machine.. as in I do not have one yet...
95 Cobra SVT,
It was not til late in the night when a proverbial light went off in my head that said, hey idoit lift toward the edges and step on it in the middle... DUH!!!
I really need to remember on the topside to bring the filler up with it... But for 6 hrs. under my belt I am not to upset with myself yet.... Just glad I have good people surrounding me... because without them, I wouldn't be where I am at now...
JP,
Thanks bro... Like I said before, I am not sure if it is the fact that I love challenges or that I like doing this a lot.. not sure which one it is ... or even both... but I enjoy the "learning" process each class... can't wait to do some "real" world jobs like headers, turbo manifolds, cages.. etc.. etc...
NA306Stang,
Thanks bro, but I still have a ways to go... side note/question... what in the heck is that thing? LOL..
