so what did we learn?
Mark,
You'd be surprised what it looks like 3 weeks later. Almost entirely gone. UV rays do some serious damage.

What experience do you guys bring to the table in relation to hosting a drifting event?

Why are people still sitting around wondering why there are no drift events? I thought this was figured out a long time ago. Basically the reason is because people are too elite/scared to drift at an oval track. There was a drift event in Orlando setup for a few weeks ago, but it was cancelled because only like 8 people signed up. Despite all the whining and forum traffic generated, there isn't enough of a demand for regular (monthly) events. After a few months the attendance takes a dive and the promoter closes up shop. For those of you who are willing to pay money (as in the $300 matt mentioned earlier), then GT Live is only a week away. Check out the events forum on floridadrift for a post where a guy has 3 spots open on his trailer.

yes and no. The event needs someone to organise it. For example the TR TRack events, they are organised by scott. TR can help by advertising the event to alot of people and perhaps helping with some of the cost. Its going to take alot of work from the drifting community to get something going though.
Has anyone thought of setting up a Gymkhana event? This would be a viable solution to many problems associated with a large drift event.
1. Gets more less experienced people to come out to the event and drive. Which IMHO is really what TR is looking for.
2. Insurance for an event like this would be considerably cheaper.
3. Space needed to host a Gymkhana event can be much smaller.
Plus an event like this will let those of us who have had lots of seat time
help those who have not. Get those pro or sponsored drivers to help the noobs by riding along with them and teaching them. You could possibly even charge for a service like this. At the end of the day the cones could be reset and the experienced drivers could have a little show off time to really let the noobs see in person what this sports all about. Get them excited to come out for the next event.
