Castro subaru!
Hoonta, AIM me about the welding, I'd need it kinda quickly (as in done quickly and soon if possible).
The axles are held in by a roll pin, but that's only to prevent them from flying off of the splined output shaft-deals - its a plenty adequate means of delivering power. Are you talking about the little c-clips on the hub side?
The fusing of the center diff is what I'm planning on doing, mainly because there are no machined rwd conversion parts for the Legacy like there are for wrx and 2.5rs. Think of it as putting a pickup truck in 4-wheel mode and taking out the front driveshaft.
Found some new wheels at the junkyard today for 60 bizux, 15x7 meshes with about a 1" lip and muuuch better offset (like +20 over +40-something). Will post pics soon...

the cv axle attaches to that with a roll pin, and its held in by a c clip.
you could probably weld the holes, but just leaving it in certainly isnt ideal.
Yeah, I may go the welding route, but I may have to have someone do it (housing is aluminum and I'm not THAT good a welder).
If I had upwards of 300hp on tap I would most definitely keep the awd, but this is a usdm legacy wagon we're talking about, and the phase I motor blows at around 9psi of boost... RWD is the more cost effective way to enjoy the car.
2 of the Banzai kids saw it step out quite a bit last night (in between losing battles against understeer, which happens the moment you allow it to), and they seemed to like it well enough.
Right now I'm looking for a 2.5rs read end and axles (any Subaru guys lmk)!
I will keep posted!
