the best thing about a 240? You know it can be drifted. If you go 'outside the box' (like I almost did with a 1987 Cressida....you could dump a shit load of $$$ into it only to realize that it's just too much of a pain (or too hard to drift).

Start with a 240 KA welded diff. I drove Cliff's S14 with welded diff @ Ocala at the private event, and I was surprised how easy ti was to get sideways on my first lap.

i would do something different if i had the money and time.

there are plenty of possibilities that would be good for drifting in about the same price range as a 240.

choice #1 82-85 celica gt,st, perferably a coupe. anything but a gts with the IRS. do a nice n/a 22re or a 22rte, but the hard part of this car is finding parts. like a mk1 supra rear end and the 22rte motor. but thats what i would do.

choice #2 a 88-91 cressida. Do a 7mgte or 1jz along with a 5spd swap and you r good to go. have taka find suspension parts for you in japan. just a little heavy for the beginer, but 80's vip is the hottest tits ever.

choice #3 mk3 supra, i know its a tank, but i would start with a hardtop perferably n/a and do a 7m,1j,2j swap, and lighten the piss out of it.

choice #4 87-89 starion or conquest. nice factory wide body, looks good, just get rid of the crappy DSM drive train and wiring and put a real motor in it. 7m,1j,2j, SR whatever, just use a better motor than the original. not sure about the chassis or suspension though.

choice #5 79-93 mustang coupe, although i would take a different approach and go and find a wrecked SVO and switch everything in to the coupe. i would do the 4cyl turbo instead of a v8. 4 wheel disc brakes, 5lug. i think it would be hot.

these are just my idea's and think they would turn out good if someone did them up right.

well sean i have entertained the DSM idea befor and the fab work is not the problem money and a good sence of direction is where Im running into a bit of a wall I want to start with somthing I know will be a good training wheel steup...once I get a good feel for getting sideway's I will get more into the experimental aspect of it but if i where to do a starion i would have to stay true to the DSM and use a 4g63 all the way but actualy I do have a 1st gen AWD that I can get and mod to a rear wheel but I would need to put a 6 bolt toghther for it and a hand full of part's hmmm somthing to think about but I would rather start off with alrady set RWD car... so much to think about....damn it now my gear's are turning and I can see I wont be getting any sleep tonight FUCK!!!!!
ARRRRGGGG!!!!

i think it comes down to good first car, tons of cheap parts, and support- s13.
go with something cooler later, or stick with that.. its a fun awesome car either way.

I still want to do a Z31 up, knowing what I know now.

84-85 chassis non turbo t tops model
87+ hood, bumper, head lights, tail lights, rear bumper, rear garnish, with nice japanese front lip, and custom carbon fiber hood from crazy matt or someone of the equivalent
emperor style chassis prep - weight reduction, and simple chromoly roll bar
S13 rack, spindles, custom front lower control arms, 88+ z31 front core support, s13 rear crossmember, 5 lug conversion, nismo 2 way diff.
VQ35 out of a 350Z. Nismo R tune cams, headers, jim wolf intake, and a kinetix or some sort of intake plenum. 2005 VTC on intake and exhaust as well. Maybe shaved heads and higher compression, as wellas arp rod bolts to make it spin 600 rpm higher than normal. AEM or some aftermarket management with a real throttle cable type setup. Z32 Transmission with a spec custom clutch
The car would probably make 280-300 horsepower to the wheels
put it on some nice 17 inch wheels with some V700 rubber or Neovas or MX's
i think it would make a very nice autocross or solo1 car, and maybe even ability to drift it would be neat.
but i miss the z31s.

I agree the s13 is best to start with. I personally love the snappiness of my ae86. Nothing like throwing around a 2000lb car.

dude, the AE doesn't need gobs of power.
aphxero's corolla puts down like a whopping 100whp and he can drift that thing no problem.

I would love to have a corolla, but, my 240 will do for now

if you can be like me and find a stock s14(NOT AN SE) with a vlsd then buy it, i think they're easier to drift than an s13
