regina, yeah, im mike.
i agree with you, but at the same time everyone is fiending for decent seat time right now, myself included. i would not have entered an event on the oval track because of my previous accident, as the resulting fear was basically negative reinforcment to remember my limits as a learning driver.
however, and i think several will agree, even though the dday events are practice sessions only, you cant argue that it is not a quiet competition. sure, there are no places, no prizes, and no public commentary, but people talk. people know who is stepping it out farther than anyone else, people talk about how bad ass anyones last run was, people talk about how much someone sucked, and you hear it, and you want to do better. not so you win a prize, not so you get placed, but everyone subconsciously wants a piece of that recognition, if not for the sake of your "fame", for the sake of personal honor, to be "good". its why people practice illegally, its why people spend assloads of money on parts, its why people wreck their cars at unsafe events. people want to get better, and drive well, and one of the only ways to do that is with practice that comes more often than once a month.
main idea: for the sake of drift, more safe events, please.

I go to these events so I can practice. No other reason. I go and I practice and I have a ton of fun. I've managed to participate in two events without hurting my car and getting A LOT of seat time in at both events. Also making tons of mistakes and LEARNING from my MISTAKES. Yes, a lot of shit has been talked about me. Especially this past weekend. I faced peer pressure to participate and some said I simply wasn't trying if I didn't do it. It hurt me, but I moved on and now stand happy because I didn't hurt my car because I made a good decision to practice elsewhere. If they can say I don't know how to drift because I was afraid of the wall, I can say that their wanting to learn so quickly means that they're in the wrong sport. But I won't say that because it isn't true, as both statements are not.

several people have expressed their opion about the track not being the best place to pratice. http://www.drifting.com/forums/showt...&threadid=3109 he pretty much called us chicken for not competing in the event.... saying we were stage fright. i bet most of us didnt compete just because we didnt want to hit a wall. it just sux that it had to happen, but shit happens
i had fun at the events, and i hope to see more of them.................... just not in miami, too far

"So why didn't you compete? Afraid to have everyone see how you can't drift. It is easy to do donuts in a parking lot and pretend your hot sh*t when no one is watching.
I guess when you have a crowd of over 1000 people and awards and prizes on the line you are just like all the other "friends" of DGTrials....All talk!
Funny how for the parking lot event there were lots of you guys there but when it was time to put out only 1 of you guys signed up!
It was because of you cowards that we had to bring out some of the Hialeah guys to give the fans a show.
Interesting fact: Of all the people at the event I talked to the only ones who complained about the event were the "friends" of DGTrials!
I guess you guys are just content to be little kids playing in parking lots. At least some guys had the guts to take the next step and act like professionals.
BTW The guy who came in 1st place won over $1000 dollars in prizes and a NOPI Sponsorship!!!"
That was so effing great. What he doesn't understand is that there are CAUTIOUS PEOPLE like you and I. I'm in the same situation with the daily driver, etc. How can you "act" like a professional with little or no practice??? I think that's more like "acting a fool". I already KNOW I can't drift yet. Hahaha. I never claim to be a drifter. BUT how can I learn if people that put on events like this jackass are degrading me for being afraid of a f_cking wall?!?! Hahaha... wow... he really dug his own damn hole there.
"I guess when some people are confronted with the fact that their ability& Talent will be judged they have to come up with some lame excuse to not put up! Miami is too far? Miami is the only city that matters in the entire state of Florida. I'll take Sobe or the Grove over Disney World any day. At least you guys in Orlando can hold your head up hi because you have the BackStreet Boys!"
This guy is a joke. That is all.

Not to forget this comment from the first page insinuating that I don't *really* want to drift...

Well i just wanted to say that my name is CHAD ( blue S14) one of those Englewood people....Me and My guys are very new to this sport and came out to learn and have a good time. Yes my friend did tolal his car , But it is not his daily driver. He understands the risks of any kind of racing.
I did not race My car alot ( although I did let Bill drive it )I was one of those people who brought there daily driver , I went out one time ( till my battery got messed up) I didnt do good , But it was still fun. I will be honest , I was very intimidated By the walls, But when I got on the track I just took it slow. I know my limits and didnt go past them. I think that is a big part of it.
To see all this Drama involved with the this makes me not want to get involved. I will admit I know nothing of DG trials or Miami or whatever is going on.. But a few people that wanted to go with me to Primus and Miami dont wish to go anymore because of all the drama That they have seen in this thread alone( I will still be going to both)
I just wanted to say thanks you to NO ANTS for your help with my guys and our cars. We learned alot just watching and talking to you all. And Bill Thank you for showing me what my car is capable of...Damn that was fun. I hope everything works out for the best , Me and my friends( for the most part ) will be coming to primus to race and learn more...Please dont be mad for me voicing my opinion I know im not in it , But this might be how it looks to other outsiders as well....

I'm sorry that this drama has effected some people this way, but it really isn't drama. This is important stuff that has to be dealt with. Not by you or myself, but it will be dealt with. Honestly, I am over it because I know now that it is in good hands. I know my opinion and decision on the matter and until Tony changes his motives, I will not be attending his events.
The only thing I can say to you is that Primus will give you much more of a chance to get to know your car without the worry of smashing into a wall. Anyone who doesn't attend an event at the Primus track (whether it be auto-x or drifting put on by whomever) is really missing out. The track itself is just incredible. The design is insane (and probably difficult, too) and the pavement looks pretty good, too. I doubt you will be disappointed.
Once the heat inside each person over this matter disperses, hopefully we can all go out to DDayII and participate as fellow drifters and pupils, not nemeses.
I apologize to anyone I have offended, except Tony who still hasn't given me any reason to respect his actions and words. I am apologizing because I have let personal emotions get to me because I was hurt. I have to learn that I made the right decision for myself and what anyone thinks of that decision shouldn't matter because I am going to practice drifting regardless.
Please don't let this type of discussion discourage you or anyone else from wanting to drift. That certainly wasn't the purpose. I hope you took the time to read Erik's letter and responses to fully understand his purpose.
Again, I am not offended. I can only thank you for bringing an outsider's voice into the whole situation. It has shed new light on this for me. Thank you.
