You'd be surprised. Cops know exaclty what to look for when they're looking for drifting.

Rain is the safest way to go, people.

um...not learning shit at drift events?
no seat time?

I improved more in 2 drift events than in 2 years on the street.
The miami event had....16 drivers?
It lasted for about 6 hours or so?
Broken down evenly, that's over 20 solid sideways minutes on a closed course...and the time definitely wasn't broken down evenly...the full field was only staged for about the 1st hour, at times there were only two cars running and staging.....the average number of staged cars was probably about 6 or 7.

Unfortunately, the seat time will go down as it gets more popular (St. Pete), but it will still be better than a Publix parking lot.

Besides, I can't afford a reckless driving ticket right now....maybe once I land a bling job that doesn't require driving I can rack up points, tickets, court costs, and insurance expenses.

Thank you, John. You are proof that we are doing the right thing with this !!!! Without the fear taht youre going to hit something / get a ticket / wreck your car you can really concentrate on getting the car sideways. It's alot of fun !!!

what is the date

february 21st was DDAY

then March 14th was Miami slide, LESS THAN A MONTH LATER

Then April 2nd we have Drift Miami florida's first competition for drifting!!

After that April 25th there is another Miami slide event.

Then we are announcing an event in Tampa in mid to late May.

At the end of may you have Drift Showoff presented by Falken Tires and Slipstream!!

So don't even go on here saying there is one drift event every four months. How about 6 EVENTS in FOUR MONTHS

that's more like it

And we don't even have a monthly thing set up YET...

not everyone can afford to take off of work and spend a couple hundred dollars to go to miami once a month. the ticket for possibly getting caught drifting a parking lot is probably less than a trip to miami

Couple hundred dollars?!?! $50 for event + $40 for hotel (if you even stay overnight) + $45 in gas = $90/$135 and that's why they're having it often, so you can get off of work at least once or twice. Like someone said above, one practice event is like 2 or 3 weeks of practice with all of the seat time you get. Tampa's time will come to have practice events eventually. Be patient. I'd rather spend $90-$130 than get arrested.

blah blah blah. just go out and practice, just because we have legal events doesn't mean that we can't go out like we used to and have a good time. the key as i said before is to pick the RIGHT time and RIGHT place.o if anyone is interested in when and where to go drifting jyust get in touch with me. i'm not going to put anyone in GRAVE danger, but just remeber one thing: if you drift on the street you have the chance of getting caought or wrecking your car. but for anyone starting out it might be the way to go. I didn't get as good as i am by going to autocrosses. i went out in ther rain and practiced period. drift events are good and all but you learn more out in the rain without the unnecessary wear and tear on your car. and the unneeded pressure of everyone watching!! the whole time i drifted on the street i bet i only got caught maybe 10% of the time. which is good but not great. legal drift is cool and all but if anyone is interested in more practice just wait till it rains then give me a call.

You'd better reassess that thought. Ask any of these guys who have racked up traffic tickets how much those tickets cost, AND how much it boosted their car insurance rates.

Even being a 30-something, a single speeding ticket would raise my insurance rates by $80-100 every 6 months for THREE years. That means that a single speeding ticket not only costs me the $100+ fine, but also a total of about $500 in insurance costs.

That's for ONE speeding ticket on an otherwise clean license... and you know the insurance companies are going to rape you younger folks even worse.

If you want to play the odds like HachiBill and hope "the man" doesn't catch you, that's cool. Y'all have fun. Just be aware that the more you do it, the more likely you are to get caught.

Me? I'd rather take that $600+ and put it toward entry fees for the legitimate motorsport of my choice.

+1

Loren, you couldn't have said it better.

I got the best at drifting by two places
1) builders square
2) tampa bay downs parking lot

the cops really dont' mind you in the TBD parking lot on sunday afternoons, they just don't want you there for more than 5-10 minutes. I actually talked to one of them one time, and i asked. "hey do you mind if i do some doughnuts and stuff, a policeman said this was the safest place i could go"

and his reply was
" dont be there all afternoon "
