Thanks guys .... Is it really worth doing the 2.4 swap and say it takes 2k for motor/parts or take that 2k and dump it all into a stock DOHC? And in reality not cyber bragging how quick can you make a 1st gen DOHC. I saw a turbo kit for about 2300 and that will only run in the 13's they say. Has anyone gotten dailey driver neon in the 10's

heh, the bottom line: you can make more power from a 2.4L than the 2.0L will produce with the same mods...not to mention a lot more torque as well...no more having to downshift to 4th to pass on the interstate...I'm expecting high 11s once my setup is complete and tuned(25psi) with my turbo 2.4(untuned at about 10psi I still think I should be able to nail a high 13) as for street driven 10 second cars...yeah...you can do it with a neon(hahn racecraft did anyway)...but why? you will break many parts along the way and frankly, if you want a 10 second daily driver, a mustang 5.0 makes a more reliable choice than a boosted-to-hell 2.4L neon

2.4s are nice and all but not worth it in my opinon....i have had everykind of 2,4 combanation in my car....n/a,,,nitrous,,,turbo,,,,turbo nitrous....it works well with nitrous but it dosnt rev as high as the 2.0 and its not as light as the 2.0..it dosnt matter what u use...u just need to know what kind of power u want to make and how much u can spend...

I'm trying to branch out

As Josiah brought out, a 2.4 will make more power. The more power you are making, the more of a challenge of having traction comes into play. A 10 sec daily driven 1st gen is asking for ALOT of $$$ and ALOT of car knowledge to accomplish that. Simply slapping a turbo kit + nitrous won't get you there alone. A basic stage 2 (intercooled) turbo kit should net you 13s. That time will fluxuate depending on driver, amount of boost, and tuning. Many people seem to be swapping to 2.4 only because of the amount of srt4 parts for sale. Overall, i'm with hiway, keep it 2.0.

I am not, between the 2.0L and the 2.4L, the 2.4 makes more torque and power, who cares if it doesnt rev as high, the only difference is where the tach needle is pointing, not actual power production(though I have had my 2.4 spinning 7500RPM a time or two, there is no point to go higher without cams of decent size...and cams of decent size are only made for non turbo applications) as for weight, my 2.4 with the balance shafts removed weighs a whole 10lbs more than the 2.0L...5 lbs more if you factor in the aluminum 2.4 mounts as opposed to the cast iron 2.0L motor plate/mount

yeah but reving means more power and the higher u rev a turbo means more boost...i've reved a 2.4 to 7500 all the the time..but it dosnt last...my 2.0 would rev to 8 no problem and it would take more....then if u throw cams in the equation u get even a higher reving monster....the weight isnt that big of a deal to me either i just posted it because it was one of the reasons...and if u actually weigh a 2.0 comparded to a 2.4 u will see the diffrence....just my opnion...

I have weighed the 2.4 compared to the 2.0 and like I said...difference of 10 lbs once balance shafts and assembly are removed...but more revs certainly DOES NOT mean more power, it just means that the tach needle is pointing at a different number...ask the high powered turbo 2.0s and the high powered turbo 2.4s who makes more power...guess what, the basic truth is 20% more displacement makes a difference, mod for mod, a 5.0L mustang engine is going to make more power than my 2.4L, why? simple, displacement, just because you like to rev does not mean that you can ignore the laws of physics, I love to rev too, dont get me wrong...but there is only so much air 2000ccs can flow, I personally love the 2.0L just as much as the 2.4L, but I am under no illusion that it can make as much power mod for mod, it cant, you have to mod a 2.0L more than a 2.4 to get the same power level, and as we all know, the more mods you have, the more unreliable your car becomes, best option for a decently quick neon(14 second 1/4 times) is simply to drop in a stock 2.4, with maybe a couple bolt ons, bam, quick reliable power upgrade with no worries for the next 70K miles, its not really fast, no, but it is reliable, and you never have to crack a valve cover bolt
