I think I understand your meaning of "squid". Its everyone who isnt in full professional race gear.
Some days I dont want to wear 50lbs of gear. Sometimes I want to feel that freedom of the world around me even tho there is a risk of injury.
A squid to me is that guy who gets a G-I-X-X-X-X-E-R 600, drops it, streches it, super wide rear tire, neons, tribal decals and puts on a mohawk on his helment. Or any idiot that rides in the middle of the road.

But im proud of you super dads that go above moto GP racers in the gear department. Nothing screams " HEY I OWN A MOTORCYCLE LOOK HOW BAD ASS I LOOK " like an old guy who sit behind a desk 60 hours a week doing tech support while day dreaming about his GIXXER he just financed after his wife allowed him.

or maybe that guy values his life... if your life is worthless by all means don't wear any gear... take the risk! just know when you die from hitting your head on the road while only going 20mph you fucked over everyone else who loves riding too...

so what kind of gear does everyone wear thats not a squid? hjc helmets and frank thomas mesh jackets? because to me if your not wearing top of the line everything and are just wearing what ever you could get your hands on then in reality those arent even that safe either. i know all of you who claim not to be squids put on a full suit including boots pants jacket and helmet that are all top of the line shit

+1

Also you have these guys who buy high dollar suits thinking they are buying the best of the best. These are the same guys you pull up to the track in brand new ducatis with nice shiny paint and wreck in beginner class. I have seen top of the line Dainese suits (retails over $3000) shred apart like a t-shirt from a slide in the grass.

Or the guy with the 1000 gets his ass handed to him by a 600 on a drag

If you want to be fast, you have to push yourself, and you will crash.

In the end, it all matters on experience, hard work, and patience.

my gear is like so:

i wear helmet, upgraded ce spine protector (not the pad that comes in cheap jackets), ce elbow and shoulder pads in my mesh jacket, i wear mesh riding pants and i admit i took the knee pads out but i try to wear them on long rides. boots, i wear tall boots with shine protection. and gloves with knuckle protection i did cut the fingers off halfway cause i have 2-3xl size hands with not so long fingers.

i have a one piece mesh suit for cold days and i have a icon field vest that i had modified to fit me better and not come off me if i wreck for short rides to work on hot days. i have the matching elbow pads for it as well. i wear my riding pants, boots, and gloves with it too

i see alot of leg amputations at work cause i think riders are get their legs caught between the bike and cars involved in the crash so i wear full boots with steel shanks in them everywhere.

i think knuckle protection is important to cause when i wrecked my hand got cause between the handle bar, clutch lever and car i hit. i was going really fast and i didn't brake my hand, the glove was shredded...

i know mesh isn't the best for rash but its all i can afford right now and i focused more on impact protection more so then sliding protection, thats just my personal opinion on what i thought was more important at the time

so in reality your jacket may help you some but when u hit that pavement that mesh is going to shred just as fast as a squids tshirt. yeah you may have a little bit of hit protection but what happens more? broken bones or road rash? i would think rash but then again i am no pro and am not trying to defend anyone but am more curious. and what brand helmet do you use? bc if its a cheap one its probably going to smash when you hit the ground and not even do much for you anyways. and your telling me when you ride your bike to work, if you do ride it to work that you wear boots and your mesh pants? and you wear those all day at work or what?

I rock my alpinestar leather jacket...suomy lid...alpinestar leather gloved with carbon fiber knuckles...boots...and icon riding pants.....im pretty comfy if you ask me...and i know my ass will be saved as much as possible...most everyone here that preaches about gear buys high end stuff...not some bargain basement garbage.

but in all seriousness...shit just got real in here.

your full of shit and retarded...

you think a mesh jack made for riding is goings to shred just as easy as T-shirt, i have wrecked in mesh it held up fine, have you any prove to your stupid statments

i see broken bones every week for motorcycle wrecks,

and i don't care if you wear a cheap bicycle helmet its better then nothing. you don't have to spend a ton of money to be protected. i think the HJC helmet on my head is safer then your expensive helmet strapped to the back of your bike squid!
