I've seen some people say their FS-15 helmets have better noise levels than their RF-1000.

HJC is large enough that you're not getting bottom of the barrel with their products. Also with large enough quantity sold, the price point can be lower for a better quality product...

I'll buy a RF-1100 Warlord one of these days. Just waiting for a good sale

When it comes to my head meeting the pavement at a high rate of speed i do not want 80% protection. When I plan on riding the shit out of my bike all day I do not want 80% comfort. When I look thruogh the windshield of my helmet I do not want to see 80% of it unfogged. I guess it is a matter of taste but when I ride a motorcycle I want to feel that I have the closest to 100% perfection I can get from my helmet, I want the utmost protection and comfort with the least amount of distraction and discomfort. There are enough hazards outside of my helmet for me to deal with.

I think you're missing my point, or intentionally twisting what I'm saying.

Maybe you're just making my point

You don't get 20% more protection from a higher end helmet. Any helmet sold will meet DOT standards. There is a lot of discussion over the usefulness of SNELL since it forces helmets to be stronger in the wrong way. Impact of force should also be absorbed, while SNELL needs two impacts in the same spot, causing helmets to not absorb as much and instead be stronger by just being stiffer. Anyway, that's beside my point...

My FS-15 Carbon fiber helmet has pinsets for anti-fog inserts. The same as a $700 helmet. Any high end helmet can fog up too. What's your point again?

wow, its a hjc love fest in here.

my .02 is that hjc's are junk, i've had one(first cheap helmet thrown in for free with the bike) and will never do it again. while you might be paying 700$ for some painted up shoei or arai but those look gay anyways, buy a plain color, get it for like 300-400. (my blue aria was 250) and you have the best of both worlds. a helmet that isn't junk and falls apart, thats also backed up by great service. atleast from my dealings. for the price of your gay looking hjc or whatever off the wall brand out there that looks pretty.

i base this on i'm just plain smarter than all of you, and don't feel like wasting my time explaining it.

I think part of the price tag is exclusivity. There's simply no way a $700 helmet will sell as many units as a $150 one. You'd also have less sales to spread out your research and design to.

You also have to account for the midrange lineup slowly picking up features that used to be exclusive to the high end helmets.

I thought this was amusing:

Arai's exceptional handmade craftsmanship, made to a higher standard of protection, comfort, and quality that's difficult to put a "price" on.
We can't explain why it costs more.

Joking aside, the nice thing about Shoei is that you know it's actually made in Japan. Getting that last 20% is costly.

I bought two cheap DOT approved helmets from Pep Boys. And I bet they'll provide DOT approved protection to my head in the event of an impact.

You fanbois and your helmets.
