Default Post your tips for daily driving your motorcycle

I know a few people on here daily drive their bike too, might as well share what we've learned.

Here's what I've learned after a year and a half.

1. Wear waterproof boots if you can because drying out shoes after getting home sucks but if it happens take the laces out and dry them in the sun with the tongues open and take out the inner soles, febreze after

2. Rain suits are awesome but carry extra clothes if u dont want to stop and put one on everytime it rains

3. Always check the forecast before you leave for the day and plan as best as you can around it

4. You can carry a 6 pack on a 07 gsxr if you put two in the trunk wear cargo pants and put two in your front pockets and two in the bottom cargos i've done a 12 pack before dont ask how and i wouldnt ever recommend it

5. Keep a few things in your trunk
- 1 - small spray bottle with some lens cleaner for bugs/dirt/waterspots
- 2 - small terry cloth
- 3 - glasses just in case your stuck at night with a tinted screen
- 4 - ziploc bag for phone, wallet, etc.

... Don't bother.

Half of the responses will tell you to just buy a car, the other half will call you crazy.

After riding the other night and hitting a nice cloud of gnats I now carry one under the seat.

Yeah. Crazy. Get a car.

No, but really. I can tell you what I've found from frequent riding. Check the weather every time before you hop on your bike. And if the weather is shitty, take your ca...oh wait...nevermind.

honestly, a trip to orlando isn't that far at all. The same gear you would use to go 30 miles should be sufficient for 4 or 5 hours.

Of course, most motorcyclists should have some ziplock bags for cell phones and what not.

You should also have a tire repair kit with compressor or inflater (whole kit for less than $20)

For long distance rides of greater than 500 miles, you must remember to carry chain lube. If you're planning on touring, and autolube system might make life easier, otherwise, buy a small can, and roll the bike forward bit by bit in a gas station parking lot. Don't forget to let it dry a little before you get back on the road or you'll fling all your new oil off and onto your bike or your pants.

The number one thing I can mention is hydration. Run your tank empty then pull over and get something to drink.

Get an mp3 player if you're on the highway to keep yourself from nodding off (a few hundred miles will be hypnotic..)

A cheap $30 tank bag is great for storing snacks, toll money, and maps or a gps if you need one.

I've done 2 Iron Butt runs with my father. The first one we failed at 800 miles when we got stuck in atlanta with no rain gear in cold conditions. The second attempt was successful with over 1200 miles in under 22 hours confirmed nonstop (stop for gas and snacks only).

Sometimes I hop on the bike and ride from hernando county over to cocoa beach to watch a movie with some friends, then ride back.
