Default Your choice for safety equipment?

Taking into account protection, protection, protection, protection, protection, comfort, and style (in that order) what's everyone's choice pick of motorcycle safety equipment?

I ask because I'm starting out with my 83 Yamaha Virago and want to do everything I can in order to avoid getting fucked up while I learn to ride the thing properly.

Boots, gloves, jacket, pants, chaps, helmets, whatever the hell you want to talk about. Theres so much out there and I'm mostly cncerned with how the different types of everything stack up to eachother in your experiences.

i would recommend (if anything) get a helmet and gloves because your melon is very important and road rash on your hands hurts like a motherfucker. I lost most of the feeling in my palms after i slid across the pavement without gloves on. Other than that i would say get a jacket, preferrably leather. Joe rocket and alpinestar and cortec make good equipment. as far as a helmet i would find a few that are comfy, then research them and see which is the (scientifically) best. thats my .02

hook me up with some rep and i'll hit you back since we have a lot

So, you recommend good ol' leather over the new synthetic shit they put out? I figure nothing is gonna save my elbow from shattering if I go down on it at 40MPH, but I've seen a lot of synthetics have armor in them thats suppossed to help somewhat. Gimmick, or good shit?

I've got an A* (Alpinestars) mesh jacket as well as A* gloves, and so far I'm impressed with them. I've got a Scorpion EXO-400 helmet and am very happy with it also.

I second helmet and gloves as the must haves. Next would be good leather jacket with elbow and shoulder armor. You need the armor in case of impact with a stationary object.

Keep in mind most of this stuff is a one use deal. The gloves are definitely going to be gone after one wipeout.

first starters I will say this, " buy the best stuff your pocket book will allow".

I ride with full leathers (Syed) I have Alpinestars GP Tech gloves, Suomy Spec-1R helemt, Sidi boots (second pair), spare Scorpion helmet, had Shoei helmet till I fell down, had Joe Rocket gloves till they wore thru when I fell down, used to have a joe Rocket jacket which held up really well, had some other cheap stuff that didnt hold up all that great (you get what you pay for)
what ever you choose to buy, make sure it fits snuggly cause it will wear/break in, try to find a jacket or suit that has a back protectore if not, buy one. dont waste your money on textile, leather holds up the best-yeah its cooler, but how many people have actually crash tested it, I did and it wasnt fun. now I used to ride in jeans, they are better than shorts but still will burn thru (have proof of that too)

in closing, I am sure there will be many to post later, some will agree with me some will not, but in the end its up to you on what you buy, have fun and be safe and keep the rubber side down

need tires (take offs)? PM me
need a deal on a track day? PM me

disclaimer: I sell used tires (take-offs), these tires have been used at Jennings, Homestead, etc. (road courses for those that dont know) therefor these tires are more used up on the sides than in the middle,

Notta problem. I can buy new gloves and a new jacket. Hands and shoulderblades are a different story. Do they make anything that resembles a black leather jacket with some armor in it? And I'm assumming everything but a full-on helmet is more or less useless, right?

you guys aren't catching his drift. HE WANTS PROTECTION. THis kid is smart and isnt gonna get hurt learning to ride. Leather Jacker, a heavy textiles one would probably be just fine too, boots for your ankles, gloves (they have some with slider type shit on the palms so pavement wont wear through (as quick ), ICON makes a ton of awesome safety gear beyond that shit though. You can buy Jeans that have hip and knee pads as well as pockets that you can insert plates into around your knees to keep them from shattering. I really want a set especially since Im trying to supermoto. Icon also make shit that goes underneath your jacket if you want and its a huge spinal protecting thing. It pretty much IS ARMOR. Lemme find some pics of this shit.
