Great Post DB... I especially liked this:

For riders:
  1. Always wear a helmet
  2. Always wear protective gear
  3. Never ride under the influence
  4. Ride only in good weather conditions
  5. Ride responsibly
  6. Assume you’re invisible, constantly scan the road
  7. Ride extra defensively
  8. Take regular MSF courses

I gave up riding a few months ago and my bike is up for sale.

It just really isn't worth it. If I'm going to die or get seriously injured, its not going to be because of a stupid motorcycle. I'd rather live out the rest of my life and enjoy other things.

Wow. Those are pretty graphic. How the hell do so many riders manage to lodge 600-700lb cruisers underneath cars? I mean, I know there's being forgetful, but how do you forget to look for stopped cars in front of you when approaching an intersection? Sure, the new Twin Cam Harleys and big displacement metric cruisers are faster than conventional Harleys, but they're still not that fast that you can't maintain control of them. And the Rocket III they have wrecked there, yeah, that thing is a death trap. It's both heavy and fast.

It boils down to this people: Maintain control of your bike or soon you'll find your bike in control of you. To tell you the truth, I don't want my life in the hands of 600lbs of metal that can't think on its own. Do you?

Fair enough.... good luck with the sale.

Your going to die regardless, whether its on a motorcycle or in your living room, when its your time to go, you go.

+1 I dont think we can control when we go.

I was told once "The day we are born, its decided the day we will die and nothing can change that"

when its your time, it doesn't matter what your doing.

But there's a difference in that I don't need to ride a motorcycle. I choose to make death come after me instead of me knocking on the door every time I twist my wrist. I don't believe in life after death so I want to make my life last as long as possible.

I used to say to people that I knew that my death would be because of my motorcycle. I've come to realize that its a stupid thing to say. Dying because of a motorcycle is tragic, pointless, and stupid. There are people in this world that I don't want to leave behind, and its them I think about when I look at the bike. If I was all alone, I probably wouldn't care, but I'm not. I may not have children, but there are people whose lives would be hurt tremendously if I were killed. I care about them and I refuse to put them through that.

I respect everyone's right to run their own lives and I'd never tell anyone to not ride a motorcycle. Unless, of course, I really cared about them.
