"This morning, Canadian Kawasaki's Tom Kipp broke the Jennings GP lap record after posting a 1:15.505 time around the 2.0-mile circuit on a ZX-10R Superbike just before the lunch break.
With the hot conditions this afternoon it looked as though Kipp's time would stand for the remainder of the test. However, Pascal Picotte thought differently. With less than an hour to go Picotte rode his Picotte Performance Yamaha YZF-R1 to another new lap record at the motorcycle only facility. Picotte's time of 1:15.444 will stand as the new official Jennings GP lap record."
I run 1:26 on my street R1 with the headlights taped in 3rd gear only. I know I can run quicker when I shift, but I feel comfortable running in 3rd gear only. Call me wierd if you want, but I try to stay in my comfort zone and I dont want to Ball up my bike.

yeah that's more like what i read... but i thought it was 1:15.1 or something... anyways. not like it matters... just sounded cool that race teams were testing at the track you guys ride one.
not balling up your street bike sounds like a good idea to me haha

I don't know what my lap times are, they weren't timed. I can't be that fast, I'm only hitting 128 in the back section. After two days at the track, it looks like the Powers have better than half the available tread depth remaining. I know I don't make gixxer 1000 power but it is an SV1000 rather than the 650.
I'm hoping to get to the point where I'm able to ride to the limits of the bike with the relatively inexpensive tires and then if I feel that I need to go faster, stepping up to a more capable tire. That method worked reasonably well for me with autocross, so for the time being, I'll stick with that plan. If street tires start to get spooky I'll take that as an indication that I'm either approaching their limits or doing something screwy that needs to change.
Of course part of this is an effort to keep costs down so that I can go more often.

There are people running UNDER 1:25 with Pilot Powers at Jennings. Just gradually increase your cornering speeds and the tires will let you know when they have had it........
