Default A question for the track riders

I'd like to know how long I can reasonably expect a set of Pilot Powers to last in terms of track days. Any thoughts? If you don't know about these tires specifically, I'd like to hear about how many track days a set of XXX tires lasted, it might be comparable. My current estimate which is based on little more than a wild assed guess is six track days for a set of tires.

I'm going to ignore street riding between track days. The street riding that I see myself doing should have negligible impact on my tire life compared to the track riding that I'd like to do. Besides compared to the track, all the wear from the street is in the middle of the tire.

I'm basically trying to work out the cost of a track day and I want to include tire wear in my estimates. This will help me to start a budget for getting to Jennings as much as I can.

Thanks!

It really depends on how you ride up there. I get 1 trackday out of a set of Pirelli Super Corsas or Michelin Pilot Race. I'd imagine that you'd be able to get 2-4 trackdays out of a set of Pilot Powers, if you dont crash on them first. But again, it all depends on how you ride.

you can get 1000's of miles out of a street tire with a mix between track and street, i used to do it all the time.

pilot powers are not the best track day tires. get a softer compound like a pirelli supercorsa or a michellin S2 race....those are going to give you the best fell and feed back to what is going on under you, and they dont need tire warmers like slicks do.

i can get you a set of pirelli supercorsa (supersoft front, soft rear)take offs 120 front and 180 read for $60 a new set is going to run you around $350

bro, its his first trackday, he probably wont run quick enough lap times to make those tires work, which would be a waste of money for him UNLESS your running below 1:27-30's, the PP street tires work great, 10 times better than the race tires would work at that pace.

Hey pat i sold the 600rr... im bike huntin this week, might have the 1000 sooner than i thought

It was a kawasaki team from canada... ran a 15.444... the old unoffical record was held by robert jenson on a R1

congrats on the bike sell....i'm still holding that GSXR deal if your intrested. let me know what your looking for i heard from lester that there is a wrecked 04-05 GSXR750 floating around that is up for sale....i think thats a perfect jennings bike...just enough power, but still can carve corners. Let me know!

very ture he might not need a tire like that, but its a type of squid protection.
EX:
the advantage to having a better tire is in case he accidentlly runs a corner too hot pirellis will scrub off speed better then the pilot powers. therefore keeping him out of the grass and/or off the pavement. just an example....
but for sure you can never get too much grip especially when you are learning. It will deffinatly give in more confidece to get later on the brakes and push it harder going in the corner, and give him a little more rubber so he can get on the gas sooner.

back when i first started a jennings i was rocking dunlop 208's (man thank god i've come a long way) i thought i knew how traction felt but man was i wrong.

not crashing is good makes you want to come back to the track every day.
all it takes is 1 hard wreck, and you start questioning why you go out there? i did but, i haven't made it back on jennings yet, but i know i'll get back racing sooner rather then later. (oh good if my mom heard me say this she would kill me.)

"This morning, Canadian Kawasaki's Tom Kipp broke the Jennings GP lap record after posting a 1:15.505 time around the 2.0-mile circuit on a ZX-10R Superbike just before the lunch break.

With the hot conditions this afternoon it looked as though Kipp's time would stand for the remainder of the test. However, Pascal Picotte thought differently. With less than an hour to go Picotte rode his Picotte Performance Yamaha YZF-R1 to another new lap record at the motorcycle only facility. Picotte's time of 1:15.444 will stand as the new official Jennings GP lap record."

I run 1:26 on my street R1 with the headlights taped in 3rd gear only. I know I can run quicker when I shift, but I feel comfortable running in 3rd gear only. Call me wierd if you want, but I try to stay in my comfort zone and I dont want to Ball up my bike.
