No way, that's why carbs have floats. They won't pull gas unless they need it

u will never get a carb to run 20:1 without it breaking up...

lean burn, small jap cars with wideband o2s are the way to get great mpg. well at least till direct injection come out for gas powered cars.....i can not wait to see what can be done with turbos after that...

oh and as for the high rpm no load vs. low rpm under a tiny bit more load... you guys are forgeting all the loss from drive train and valve train. as well as the oil pump having to pump harder at 6 k than 2 k...

low rpms in top gear (without lugging it) is better for mph. [/thread]

??? for teh win!! He's right, I can't argue. Nothing sounds cooler than a carb'd SBC breaking up lean in the high band.

lol... shooting ducks!!!

i don't mean at WOT, that's simply to jet.... the the cruise curve is what will never be as flexable as FI.

This Corvette tried to race my pop's 'stang the other day, and man, it was the epitome of carburetor breakup. I'm shocked he didn't drop some valves out of the exhaust it sounded so bad.

True, carbs can never be as smooth as FI, but they're good enough for me, and that's what matters. Plus, they look cool

Here is what ya said and I read......what I read here is that you are saying by only opening it partially that the water is at a higher pressure and you are flowing more water? opening the valve part way is no different than squeezing the hose.

when i read his first post i got that when you turn it open all the way the pressure goes up and flows more water for the same size hose....

Oh hell yeah. We can throw that one in the "Why-didn't-we-think-of-this-earlier?"-category, haha.

Great point about the extra drag from friction and driven mechnisms at higher rpm's. I didn't even think about that.

Oh yeah, while I'm throwing things around, I might as well toss garden hose-analogies in with carbs in the "Things-that-suck"-category.

ok so i get it, high rpm=bad for mpg, but low rpm=good mpg.
how about this question, say your rolling at 45 mph in top gear, but then have to speed up, would it be better to down shift or just give in more gas in top gear?

and another thing......i have just noticed the cars local retard owns.......its a 89' porsche 959($200,000), 04' Koenigsegg CCR($350,000) and a 07' Rolls Royce Silver Ghost(not even made yet!)HAHAHAHA, DUDE u have an awesome taste in cars!!!!!!!!!111111
