The up-side is:
Smoother idle
Better low end power
Potential higher top-speed
The down-side is:
You lose the functionality of the gear indicator
There is what is known as an "Intelligent TRE" (not a Smart TRE) that can be programmed with much more flexibilty and does not have an adverse effect on the gear indicator.
The GSXR is fast, real fast... be careful... unlike the Busa, the GSXR is not real stable up top.
The digital speedo stops at 186mph... the tach however continues to climb

Bobby man - first time rider and an '05 1000 and wanting to top it out. Do you have ANY idea to the amount of power that you grasp between your legs. DO you have any idea how much room you need to do this safely? The only time I tried it was at 3am on I-75 with NO taillights in sight and between exits and on ramps. I hate to sound like mom, but man, that thing will put a hurtin on you quick like if you don't respect it to its fullest.
Im just curious as to why you got a 1000cc anyways?
Statistacally this is what happens to 1000cc motorcycles piloted by new riders

Do NOT become a supporting factor.
^sounds like some cheesy tabacco commercial.
But seriously.

Also note that is 186mph INDICATED on the speedo, which are always optimistic. True top speed is round 175-180mph depending on conditions.

1000cc first bike? About to get your motorcycle license? Wants to know how fast a GSXR 1000 will go? Is this another joke? I witnessed a guy who has been riding for a month go down on a GSXR 1000 last Sunday, use your fucking head man!
Yea u def have to be safe. i topped my r1 at 178 2 weekends ago. ive been ridin 3 weeks. was crazy ass shit. but i was on gandy and no cars i could see. so i guess it was as safew as it could be. just be aware of ur suroundings. ur gonna do it if u really want to regardles of what anyone says. atleast i did
busas topend at 186, the speedo will peg past the 200 mark and stay. In other words, busas actually do 186 and are rev/timing limited to not go higher, all the major manufacturers set this as the "safe" limit.
I'm sure Cecil could be more specific.
