I wish I could try this. I am out of town until mid-November. I have an Evo, been itching to put it in Gravel mode. Tires are just completely wrong for this as well. When is the next one?

Tires are fine.. they might not offer the most grip. but unless you change your brakes, get 15" wheels and go to rally tires, you'll never have ultimate grip.

I'm empathetic about tires... all I've got right now are the 215/45/17 street tires on my car right now, or some autocross tires. I was hoping to find some 15" or 16" M+S tires locally, but that's about as likely as it actually snowing here. So at this point, about the best I can hope for is to find a set of 185/65/15s all seasons, but I'm not willing to spend more than maybe $10 a tire for 'em.

BTW, I'm curious if we can look forward to this being a monthly or bi-monthly thing too? If so, I might pony up the coin to buy some used rally tires and have 'em shipped to me. I know folks who can get me used rally tires for $5-10 per tire, but it'll cost me $80-100 to get 'em shipped.

Hint: If you want to see these things happen more frequently, GET INVOLVED.

PM Jeff (treekiller) right now with "how can I help?"

Jeff absolutely LOVES rally and rallycross, but the reason his rallycross series is so sporadic is because he gets very little help in putting on the events. The few people (20-30 entries at most) who show up are mostly "customer" types who expect to just show up and participate, and expect a "professional" event, which is really, really hard for one person to manage.

Get involved, make it happen!

Thanks Loren. That's about the Gist of the situation. I run Pretty much everything myself. Goumba Helps when he can but he lives an hour from Tampa, so his involvement is down to the event days.

In addition to running two businesses (by myself), a household (By myself) and the rest of crap that life throws at all of us. I'm pretty much tapped out. if anyone wants to put together the rest of the season. there are conflicts we have to avoid. but other then that picking the days is easy sine we just Pick a day when their is saturday night races at East bay..

I also Have all the equipment and software to hold Road rallies or performance rallies, Hill climbs. etc. but to hold more events, I'll need someone to take the lead.

I hear ya... I really do. Personally, I'd love to be more involved, but to be honest, I simply can't swing it logistically. I'm in Sarasota, and with my family, home, and doctoral degree commitments, it's difficult to get much time at all to do much of anything like this, even participate. If I were a single guy, didn't have 2 young kids, or were even just 10 years younger, you can bet I'd be there helping, organizing, and even running events. My lifestyle requires I plan well in advance if I want to do an event, and I mean usually months in advance. If you don't understand what I'm talking about, then either you are single, don't (didn't) have kids, or are 10 years younger. And while my wife is about as supportive as she can stand to be, she just doesn't understand the nature of grassroots DIY style events conceptually... modern lifestyle and consumer culture has made such things an oddity to most these days. And given the kinds of time constraints so many suffer with, professionally planned-way-in-advance, customer type events make a lot of sense sometimes, even if the costs are way higher.

Like I said, I'd love to be more involved, so if there is something I can do to help with these events, sitting 60 miles away, in the later evening hours, via mail or email, then sign me up. Otherwise, the best I can offer right now is all my enthusiasm, a good attitude, as much as I can do the day of the event, and lots of moral support. And in the meantime, I'll be looking forward to when my lifestyle will permit me more involvement.

You know what, I'm gonna see what I can do to make some time for this in a more real way. I was way spoiled in Seattle and the PNW with the amount of infrastructure and organization already in place up there... the scene is huge. But I think it has potential in this region, especially considering how few rally type events there are in Florida overall. Jeff, I'll drop you a PM after I talk to my family about getting the time.

And remember if you want to do a sarasota area Road Rally Go ahead and pick a route, I can come down one day with the rally computer and take the mileages to the .001 of a mile and plug the instructions into the spreadsheet which automatically calculates time.

Writing a Road rally is easy just remember to keep it simple.. the one bad thing about the limited number of Florida rallies is the compeditiors aren't familiar with Rules.. Both Myself and Loren Got bit on rallies..

The other problem is that a lot of the younger folks with "rally inspired cars" (WRX's mostly) don't understand street-legal TSD rallies at all. They want to go be a WRC star while driving through someone's neighborhood.
