if its the 4.1/4.5 motor I dont think there is any 5 speed that bolts to it, Those mosts only came in the caddys. I personally hate those motors with a passion.

Doesn't matter how much you hate it. If it's reliable enough to complete a LeMons race, and puts out enough power to at least get out of it's own way... that's all that really matters!

I just think it would be fun to complete a LeMons race in an "unlikely suspect". Finishing in the top 20 with a car in the "no prayer of finishing" class would be perfect!

Not a single one of those is less than $500.

I'd be looking for a wrecked car for $100.

they all are $500.. if the AC works you pull that and sell it plus some of the other intieror bits.. Or trim.. Its easy to recoup $300 or so in parts you wont be using.

Might be worth doing that kind of thing for a "good" car. But, for a true POS... I'd be waiting for the $100 car. $200 at the most.

They're out there. The cars that are so ugly and beat up that nobody else wants them, and the owner just wants it out of their yard.

I'm really surprised by how many lemons teams were cheating.
I'll bet that BAM worked really hard to stay on budget, and has receipts for everything.
Though if they catch you cheating, they might just crush it.

On the big car topic.
A buddy of mine told me that scrap steel is going for over $100 per 1,000 lbs. (I have not verified this hearsay though). If that is true, the $100 Caddy is a thing of the past, since it scraps out for about $500.
The used car lot at my corner just had about a dozen crappies towed to the scrap yard because they were worth more as scrap. I think he got $250 each for them.
I've been thinking about offering him $50 for a hagged out 5.0 Mustang convertable, but it's worth a lot more as scrap. And as a car, it's really only worth $50-$100.

To build a truly on-budget $500 race car that will COMPLETE a LeMons race, one would have to get VERY lucky in their selection of a $500 car. This is why everyone cheats. And they turn a blind eye to most of it, as long as it's not performance enhancements. It's stuff like the coilover kits, the headers, the intakes, the obviously torn-into and built-up engines that get their attention.

Barry? Receipts for everything? While he might actually have receipts for most of the stuff that we admitted to replacing on the car... he was far less organized than you might think. But, yes... showing up with solid PRINTED documentation would be a good thing.

If they catch you cheating during BS inspection, they're simply going to assign a lap penalty to you. No crushing. The only car that gets crushed (other than incidental track damage) is the car that gets the People's Curse. So, if you cheat TOO MUCH, and it's obviously working for you (or you drive like a dick, as the winners of the Curse at CMP did), then you can get crushed.

Speaking of cheating... Ask James what he saw the crew of the winning RX-7 do immediately after slipping through the BS Judging station at CMP.
