My Miata is a beater, and if it breaks, I'll fix it (maybe). Don't let that be your guide!

I decided to do it. I can always decide just to watch/work if it really seems that bad when I get there. It looks almost completely harmless looking at the pics, the satellite image of the track and the RallyX rules. I figure I'll just take it easy, see what it's like, and have a bit of fun while avoiding destroying my daily driver .

I have a question on classing. I have a basically stock 91 240sx- 2.4 liter NA engine, RWD. It's almost stock. All I've done is emissions delete, intake resonators removed, new shocks (pretty much stock shocks), all stuff that doesn't matter. The one thing I'm not sure on is my rear subframe spacers. They're little metal collars that slide into the rear subframe bushings and keep the rear subframe from moving. I'm not sure if something small like that would bump me up.

it's fairly benign on the car, the worst thing that sometimes happens is tires have a tendency to de-bead themselves. if you push too hard into a soft dirt section. (which east bay does not have) plus east bay has compressed air I think, if not a trip down to 7-11 for hairspray and a lighter can re-seat most beads. (just don't have fix-a-flat in the tire kaboom)

To be honest your first time on dirt you are not going to be competitive with the top runners. and, the lack of compliance is not helpful on the slippery stuff so I don't see it being a competitive advantage. now a welded diff, or super off road tires...... that I might have a problem with.. Remember we run a strict No-whining policy. If there is a mis-classed car I'll bump them otherwise if someone protests over something stupid they will be laughed at.

As a wise man once said.. "If you were at the drivers meeting you'd realize this is NOT the SCCA"

OK, thanks, stock it is; signing up now. I have no delusions of being competitive my first time out or even my tenth time out- I just want to make sure I won't offend somebody over something silly like that. I guess I've read too much about the SCCA Nationals...

Hi Jeff,

What's the needed ground clearance estimate?

I'm thinking about taking the GRM Fiero, but the aftermarket sway bar only gives 2 1/4 inches clearance. I've scraped the dirt on my own street, but you say this will have a fresh grading.

I've driven your street and if you can make it there it should be okay, it's all going to depend on where we can transition between the infield and the oval. we have to make sure it's smooth enough to do at speed. sometimes it's like crossing a speed hump at a 45 degree angle.

I assume, maybe incorrectly, that my friend with an FJ cruiser would not be allowed in this for some seat time?

I would think that your assumption IS correct, but I don't call the shots.

The real question is, does your friend really have a desire to race the clock on a tight dirt course...in an FJ Cruiser? If so, why? There are already plenty of videos on the interwebs of SUV's rolling over while playing in the dirt, and I wouldn't care to see someone potentially trash their vehicle and/or get hurt. It's just not worth the risk.

While they "Can" run legally in rallycross I would not risk it. since East bay's clay can generate quite a bit of lateral G's

Would my VW powered rail buggy be accepted here? I don't care what class I'd be in, I just wont to have fun. I'd LOVE to get into this. If my wife and I try it and like it and you guys keep putting them on, I'd consider building a full bodied bug to be "competetive".

How often do you guys have Rally Cross events? Where are they located?
