727kid.. Did you like how my setup sounded? it wasn't turned all the way up.. but it got loud and sounded pretty clean didn't it? I also have a shared chamber ported.. It sounds really good.. I had to play with tuning of amp for a bit to find good xover point but it sounds good.. Idk what they are talking about..

Its all preference.. if it sounds good to the owner who cares..

Yea it sounded nice... like I said earlier.. almost all dual sub set-ups I see are a ported box with a shared chamber... I'm a bit lost too.

In a shared chamber, if one sub blows...the other is more likely soon to follow given you just doubled the volume of the box. Plus, seperate chambers allow more control over the sub given the minor variances between identical equipment. Really it just comes down to putting the extra effort into the enclosure...there's no other reason not to do seperate chambers.

Its so much easier to do a little more math and use a little more wood then having to go buy a pair of new subs when one blows and the other one destroys itself.

Not all people can tell if a sub is blown. If you have a bandpass or any box where the subs are not really close to you then it will be hard to hear sometimes.

i have a problem with box flex - with a span of wood that long without any supports it will flex- loosing sound engery... shared air volume not a problem if box regitity is built into it, a few supports (one between subs) and corners, make a much stiffer box, i am now in the habbit of doubling up on the mounting surface where the subs mount (or at least doing a ring so you have 1 1/2 of wood to screw to (i also now use t nuts and allen head screws to hold subs in) these few things make a huge difference in durablitly of the box. plus it allows you to give the box a more custom look.

How bout installing right and not blowing the sub? If your trying to get every last inch of space, seperate enclosures will not work, and they are more expensive to build, more chance of messing up the enclosure. And if you can't tell a sub is blown, something is wrong with you, a 3dB decrease in sound should be more than noticable, plus it isn't hard to unplug the speaker wires and put a 9v to it and see if they are blown.
