i heard that insted of getting a capacitor i should just get a gel cell battery and not worry about getting a capacitor. should i still get one or is the battery good enough?
What brand of stuff.

Why do you need it?

Technically yes a gel cell would be better but also more expensive if you're using it for the wrong reason.

This is bringing up the long heated debate of Caps or No Caps?

sounds decent - if your lights STILL dim after that then pick up a cap and wire it as close to the amp as possible.

A cap is not the solution to dimming lights. Most capacitor retailers (the honest ones atleast) will even tell you this upfront. If you're worried about your lights dimming, upgrade your factory wiring and/or get a high output alternator. Caps are used to stabilize the current going to your amps, and even that is a tad far-fetched.

BTW, How the hell did this thread get on the subject of caps? Just a bit off-topic, don't you think? Making a new thread isn't going to kill you.....

Yes new topic is in order, but since you put ur argument in there...

A cap will help dimming lights, since thats what a voltage drop does. Dan even complains he cant get his lights to dim because of his damn 5farad cap...

I added a cap, battery, and alternator post to the tips and tricks threads. And no, I didn't go into the value, or lack there of, of caps.

actually my shit does dim, i never really realized it before because i only have one actual working light. meanwhile u have like 5 to look at.

I dont know why you'd be worried about it anyways, makes it all strobe-like. Party mobile man. Dalton's got the electroball. Hook up my sound-sensitive neons in there too and Toby's fog machine and holy crap man.

You have a 5 farad cap and less than what, 800w rms total? And your lights still dim, if that doesn't prove caps aren't meant to cure dimming lights I don't know what does.
