Cooling Air And Fuel With Design Engineering Inc’s CryO2 System

By Brian Wagner August 01, 2018Engines of all varieties love to feast on deliciously cold air and fuel to produce the maximum amount of horsepower possible. Finding different ways to lower the temperature of incoming air and fuel into an engine has been the pursuit Design Engineering Inc. (DEI), and they now have a very scientific way to do it. The CryO2 system from DEI drops air and fuel temperatures via liquid CO2 that allows for nice horsepower gains for any engine package. The idea behind DEI’s CryO2 system is to use liquid CO2 and the cryogenic properties it can provide to shave up to 50-degrees off the intake charge temperature of the air coming into an engine. The same system that can provide the blast of CO2 to the air coming into the engine can also be used with the DEI fuel heat exchanger to lower fuel temperatures to produce a better burn inside the combustion chamber.
One of the ways the CryO2 system can help lower the temperature of the air coming into an engine is through their Intercooler Sprayer Kit. This system helps to not only lower the air intake temperatures, but also improve the efficiency of the intercooler via a spray bar attached to the intercooler itself. To lower the temperature of the air directly with the CryO2 system, the Air Intake option uses a bulb with a cryogenic chamber inside a tube that fits in your intake piping. The incoming air is cooled as it passes over the bulb provide a powerful intake air charge. To learn more about how all of these DEI CryO2 systems work make sure to check out the video up top that provides all the details.
