no reason to get all sprung all over it, Told ya it was a valve problem. Next time you'll be able to figure it out a little quicker. :D

easy close the vavles, compressed air will hold them up or put a bunch of string or small diameter rop and turn the engine over by hand slowly till it stops. The rope will also hold the vavles shut. Sears should have a valve spring compressor not sure if it will work on a 2.2 however. Might not be enough room around the spring

If not John has a spring compressor that bolts onto the head, you still need to use air or something to hold the valve up. If your just gonna swap the one see if he will let you borrow it. Or I can tow your ass up there and you can do it there.

If you rotate the engine so that the piston is at the top of the stroke the valve won't fall into the cylinder.

All you need is a stick, screwdriver, or something to stick in the spark plug hole, rotate the crank until you see the screwdriver at it's highest point.

The furthest the valve will fall is to the top of the piston which usually isn't very far at all, and depending on the type of valve seals your head uses they usually put enough tension on the valve stem to keep them from just falling in as well.

One of the hardest things is trying to keep the two small valve spring retainer locks from falling into the engine, a good magnet on them while compressing the spring works nicely, blocking holes in the immediate area is a good precation as well.

Where does it bolt onto the head? Is it just for Ronda's?

I need to change all 8 anyway, i'm putting stockers back in. Thanks though.

Thanks for the ideas. But since I already have the spark plug hole --> air hose fitting, i'll just use that.

oh, and 808, you were right! Changing valve springs is cake! I just finished them all and put the cam back in. Timing belt, valve cover, and we'll see if she runs!

rb70383
07-27-2002, 05:00 PM
cool Good luck mang hope this is it and nothing else is wrong. Were all the valves at the same height with the cam removed? WORSE case is the weak/broken valve spring can kiss the piston and bend it causing it to not seat completely. But since it wouldnt run right I am going to guess that all is right. Let us know.

Well J3ff If that didn't fix it, then what could it have been. You shoulda started it and took a test drive, don't be such a pessimist.

Oh BTW If I can get this damn car fixed, I really wanna make a trip to get some CDM parts. I was thinking I don't need a truck (or have one) as long as I remove the back seat, I can put an engine there

CrazyMoparGirl

actually the engine will fit in the trunk, not that I've done that or anything.

mpbiv
07-27-2002, 11:46 PM
Yeah but I have to be able to cruise down the turnpike at 85mph with the trunk closed :)

Now that I think of it you are probably right. of course I would have to tilt it over to fit it in. Plus I would have to lift it to clear, and quite frankly I don't want to spend more money to repair the rear end again.

Other option was to split it into several parts: 1)head, intake, exhaust and turbo 2) block.

All scrapyards have to drain the fluids before they put the car in the yard right?

I am gonna go with transporting it in the car in several pieces. I know I can have it apart lickity split.......................I hope

What about Cophers specifically? Over here they don't usually let me walk around the yards, or pull my own stuff. Its a bitch cause I have to ask them if they have something and usually they say they don't because they dick at the counter doesn't want to spend time to look it up.

I went to one yard and asked if he had any chrysler turbo engines and he said no, but there was a leabron quarter panel sitting right there at the counter that had a turbo badge on it. However the guy just kept saying "we don't have terbos" in some unknown accent.

every Cophers I've been in they let you walk around and pull your own parts, just have to pay $1 and sign the waiver. Copher Bros. does not let you walk in back. BTW Ford owns Cophers so that may explain their mentality. What am I saying may, of course it explains it 100%

We fit a 2.5 in the trunk of my 82 Prelude... and those got small trunks! Not to mention mine was shortened 3" by an F150

Besides, wouldnt your trunk being propped up on the highway give you more downforce? I seen it in some movie..........

They pop holes in the oil pans and slash the lower rad hose. Drains them for the most part, however there's always oil hiding somewhere in engines.

Yes, CDM allows you to go into their warehouse and get the parts that you need. They even have handy shopping carts!

so anyway, i go to start the car today and it aint gonna let it happen. The thing was turning over kinda strange.. like, way too easy. Almost like the plugs were out. I check all kinds of things. Plugs are soaked after trying to start it. Finally let out a big WHAT THE FUCK NOW?!?!? and get the compression gauge out. Plug it in #2 since i had the spark plug out anyway. 5 bumps.. needle barely moves...

rb70383

check cam timing mang. go back to basics. You'll get it. It obviously isnt the short block since this happens with you messing with the head and cam. Back to basics take it easy. Make sure the valve seats and cam timing is dead nuts on again.

FearThe4Doors
07-31-2002, 04:42 AM
Maybe good news after yet another day of checking things and trying out new ideas. I put some oil in each of the cyls, no compression. Pulled valve cover, checked for broken cam or anything like that.. nothing. Filled cyl with air again to check for stuck or leaky valves. Nothing.

Then I got a tip from a local mechanic friend. He says that on these engines, when you run compressed air into the cylinders, a lot of times the lashers will fill up with air (thru the oil passage that feeds them with oil). The air gets trapped and the oil cant get in to fill them, causing the valves to work all fucky and causes no compression. Who'd a fuckin guessed? Makes sense i guess though. Besides, what the fuck else am i going to do?

rb70383
07-31-2002, 02:28 PM
I guess?? Hmm wierd. However might be accountable for something since it seems your problem changed cylinders

In case of robberies, they must lock the doors after a robbery happens until police arrive, and also they must lock the door in the event of a power outage.
