Flushing/Changing the Coolant
What's up guys... I was wondering if any of the more knowledgeable folk could clarify for me how to to flush/change the coolant. I searched on the gixxer forums but It just confused me even more...
I have an 02 GSXR 600... Gixxer forums say to unhook lower hose from radiator, let drain, refill, let drain again, then refill once more. But what about the coolant resivoir (sp.) ? I mean if I just drain the radiator there will still be coolant in the resivoir, correct?
I dunno, this is all new to me, (not like cars), plese give me some insight,
Thanks!

Take the mid fairings off.
Open the radiator cap.
Loosen the clamp that holds the hose onto the engine case on the left side of the bike. Let all the coolant drain. Slide the hose back on where you took it off from, but there is no neet to tighten the clamp at this point.
Fill the cooling system back up and start the bike up so it can circulate.
Drain again.
Repeat this process as needed until the system flushes clear.
After your final flush tighten the clamp as needed.
Refill your system with a coolant of your choice. I like Engine Ice.
Start your bike back up with the radiator cap off to let all the air out of your cooling system.
After a couple of min. letting the bike run with the cap off (before the coolant over flows) Replace the radiator cap.
Take the over flow bottle off, drain it, rinse it out and put it back on. Fill to the full line. (I actually like to fill it alittle above the full line.)
Replace your fairings, and your done.

Good post DB... Have you done this before?

Thanks DogBone, but Specs call for 2.5 QTs of coolant/water mixture, I think that by doing this it will be waay more than 2.5 QTs.

Are you putting regular anti freeze back in? I'd recommend Engine Ice. Your only flushing the system with water, not coolant.
