i would like to see the percentage of 6 cylinder mustangs vs 8 cylinder mustangs on the road today. when i was living in north carolina it seemed like every young girl had a 6 cylinder mustang with the "lonesome tube" pointed pathetically at the pavement.

however, i like v8 mustangs and i run them every chance i get...and with my little civic i run neck and neck with stock 4.6's right now.

Whoo Hooo, thank god it only took ford about 30 years to catch up to the point where they were in the 60s.

At least the tire technology has advanced a bit if we don't count the delaminating explorer tires.

Ya and back when your were a sparkle in your mama's eye there wasn't a thing call emissions and that was also a beginning of the muscle car era! Plus back in the 60's it was all about cubes, so for having 300+hp but a drastic reduction in displacement(428 vs. 281) I'd say Ford has acheived it's goal of providing power in the age of emissions and high gas prices while the age of the muscle car era has long become extinct. -Mark

i dont mean to piss in anyones wheaties but, everyone in here that takes full advantage of the current import movement should thank god for the gas shortages of the early 70's ,the increaseing emission standards and last but not least insurance companys. all of the this happened at the same time (early 70's). in the early 70's all the domestic car companys had very large cars with very large engines and those cars werent very popular with gas shortages, so in comes toyota, honda, nissan and vw with there small cars and 20mpg. thrrough the 70's the domestic companys were trying to come up with small cars (pinto, vega, monza, mustang 2, dart, duster) as quickly as possible. of course none of these cars were any good but they filled a hole and took some sales from the imports.
we all know that cars received cat convertors in 1975, well are heros in detroit had these large engines choked down with emission carbs and miles of vacuum lines and these rotten egg smelling cat convertors.
insurance companys..... if you guys do any reading at all about cars..... the insurace companys gouged new muscle car owners to the point no one could afford a new "muscle car".
dont take my word on this.....look it up.
400HP930..... when you say it took ford 30yrs to equal the 60's....your right sort of. but please remember the car makers change the way they rate hp....from GROSS to NET.

was the 428cj considered a mass produced vehicle? i thought there was only like 500 of them built, or whatever the minimum was so it could compete in the trans-am series.
and those old numbers may have been gross, but the cobras then weren't s/c... i didn't know the 03's were s/c until about a week ago (don't follow ford very much).
i am still not impressed with the specific output of the big motors, but i also understand its not economical for the car companies to build an everyday mass car to super specs (like say a certain bugatti 3.5l quad turbo flat 12 that makes over 700/600). but it looks like ford is getting there. i still don't like anything gm, except the old gnx, and the REAL muscle cars from the 60's and 70's.
