I dont know the conversation that took place between himself and the tuner, but im guessing it was pretty funny for atleast one party involved. You want to push the limits of stock shit, this is what happens. You want to blow nothing but hot air from a turbo your running so inefficiently, be my guest. But for fuck sake, when shit goes wrong, don't look any further then the closest mirror. I know im being a dick right now, but seriously, there is no one to blame other than yourself. If your that coy thatyou'd let him turn you away with the vacuum line remark and pursue it no further and not emphasize to him that things were not up to par then yet again, your coyishness took the better of you.

you may call me whatever you like, cause everyone else does. I have no compassion towards most peoples situations that they have ultimately brought upon themselves. hence i have no compassion here. detonation was heard repeatedly, a call was made, and it was left at that. if this tuner was so incompetant, why wasn't another contacted? like i said, you may look no further then the closest mirror.
I really don't care to argue, but, I went up to Atlanta because he was supposed to be a really good tuner. I got there, with nothing but pump gas in the car. The car made awesome numbers on pump gas, and that's what I wanted, a pump gas tune. After he made the 93 map he asked me if he could throw C16 in there to see what he could make on C16/93 Mix. I said sure, that doesn't bother me at all, seeing as its free C16 on the way back to Florida. He was supposed to change the map back to the 93 after he was done with the road tune. It was HIS FAULT THAT HE DIDN'T CHANGE THE MAPS BACK, NOT MINE.

A little while after the tune, I could feel the car pulling timing at 5500rpm(peak hp). I contacted him about this and was told to check my vac lines. I checked my vac lines and everything looked fine. Some days it didn't feel like it was pulling timing at all, some days it would.

Eventually, I pulled the plugs and discovered aluminum dust on the plugs, especially bad on the #3 plug. Since you're so adept, I'm sure you know what this means. I changed the plugs with 1 step colder NGK's and the problem seemed to have been resolved. I drove the car around with no hinting of knocking for weeks.

Finally, it started happening again, the car would just die up top at 5500rpm. I pulled the #3 plug again and found the same thing. At this point I said enough was enough and got retuned by a shop in North Florida.

This is where we found Dougs mistakes.

12.5 : 1 AFR at peak torque.

I don't need to call you names, that's not my style. But, I would like it if you didn't come in here and bash me like I have no idea what I'm talking about, thanks.

well now that the whole story finally ups itself, then yes, i will say since he was wanting to do some sort of experiment with C16 on your car it'd be his fault since from what you say, you never intended running a race gas tune.

the way you came off is that you had the mindset you were going to be the most powerful stock turbo sti in the country, or that was the goal. and im not even going to begin getting into the stupidity of that topic

so in summation, i appologize for busting your balls, but when you have detonation, you have it for a reason. you would have been better off turning the boost down and driving it grandma like till you had it retuned.

now...i am curious, this 2nd tune you got here locally. the motor let go after this new tune?

Numbers are just numbers to me, especially on a dynojet.

Yeah, my motor let go after the 2nd tune but I firmly believe the damage was already done.

Does your STI have VTEC? That could be your problem, why you are running so lean.

Hey ITS n STI I highly suggest Snowman to tune your car. I know of at least 5 people who have gotten a tune from him and they all love it. I used to run Cobb Accessport for almost 2 years and his tune is a night and day difference. I sold my AP asap and haven't looked back since. Also you might want to look into alcohol injection if you haven't already.

I have the Cooling Mist Stage 2 kit sitting in my garage, I don't know if i'm going to use it though. I will talk to SnowMan about him tuning my car, though, thanks for the suggestion.

You kinda sorta left that out Gosh I feel so bad for you how many miles did you have on that car before you blew that motor. This is why Im afraid to get my car tuned but I already knew Doug at TopSpeed was a shitty tuner. Your not the only one who's had a bad tune.

Bro check the Subaru forum Im always in there and never seen you post. I would of been more then happy to tell you some of the better tuners. I think Scott Siegel is coming down around the end of April and hes one of the best Tuners for subbies, hes a perfectionist and would never forget to switch a map. Ohh and that was a nice run with the Z28 those things haul serious ass.
