Default First encounter with an LS1

A friend of mine bought a badass car, a 2002 Trans Am ws6 auto.
we raced a few times with completely different results each time, none of which i won, but did i expect to win? lol NO!
We went from a dead stop and i spun them real bad and he had me by 3 car lengths at 95mph before he let off. Second attempt was worse because i just couldnt get the tires to hook up, but the 3rd time however ... we punched it from a 10mph roll and i hooked up and got a nose on him and stayed right next to him till 75mph till he let off .. i think the difference was i powershifted 1-2 and 2-3 and i usually granny shift, does powershifting help that much???, needless to say if we had gone faster he would have started pull, but for god's sake .. he has 75 or so more rwhp!!! What does a stock 2002 ws6 auto turn in the 1/4 anyway???

well after that the next day i went over to frdspeed to have my timing checked out (thanks joe!) ... and turns out my harmonic balancer is wobbling around real bad ... and to think i was almost turning 7000rpms powershifting on a harmonic balancer that was floppin around!!! .. better get that fixed asap!!!

7000 RPM's? My Mod motor barely turns that.

Anyway, powershifting helps tremendously. I usually cut about .3-.5 off my 1/4 mile times by powershifting. As for a WS6 Auto's 1/4 times, I'm no expert but bone stock I'd say somewhere in the mid 13's would be accurate.

The stock rev limiter is 6250, but I get ur point.

Yes the car will run MUCH better.

Nice runs, work on your launch and you should be able to hold him off till 75 or so.

Be careful if you are running the stock shifter, the factory shift forks in the T5 suck, I know, I have broken several, get you a pro-5.0 shifter, or a B&M ripper, something with adjustable stops and have it put in and adjusted properly, it will go a LONG way to keeping your tranny happy, good runs by the way, my pretty much stock 86 with a 3.55 gear used to run dead even with a buddies firehawk, but it was an LT1, the speed density stangs run pretty well.

actually mine has the 205hp 93 motor, and still runs good, even with slow timing and a wobbling harmonic balancer lol

i dunno about the shifter though, im a pretty strong guy and when i pull back on the stick to hit my gears ... i really hit them hard and i havnt broke it yet .. but right now i dont have funds to mod or fix things i break .. so ill be driving nice for a while.
