They are two different body styles. The 99.5 looks like the current Golfs (more rounded).

I'm going to guess that you have a Mk3, since you posted that you had a 2.0L motor in the GTI. I believe they only offered the 2.0L in the GTI in the Mk3 chassis.

 

this is true. they only had 2.0 in mk3's. which i don't understand at all. oh well. question solved. it's a mk3. i just never saw his post saying he had a 2.0L.

 

well my GTI looks exactly like yours judging by the pictures you guys have up, headlights look the same too...... could someone perhaps post a pic of each ? or do you think i could tell by the build date?

 

just got back from checking out my car. the build date is 04-99...hopefully this is determine if it is a mkIV or mkIII..... is there that big a difference? like suspension parts wise, or anything?

No, I was saying that about the GTI's. The regular Golf's always came with the 2.0's, regardless of Mk3 or Mk4.

 

what about mk2's?
